The OECD/G20 introduced a new global tax framework, known as Pillar 2, to ensure large multinational companies pay at least 15% tax in every country they operate. Over 140 countries, including Canada, have agreed to this framework. Manulife is implementing a global program to comply with this new tax regime by June 2026.
The Manager, Global Taxation will be a key player in this program, helping to complete the implementation of Manulife's Global Minimum Tax (GMT) system. Reporting to the AVP, Global Taxation, you will collaborate with various teams in finance, IT, and across business lines, to move the program forward.
You bring a solid understanding of accounting principles, corporate taxation, and most importantly, the curiosity and drive to learn more about new and complex tax matters. You're passionate about working with colleagues across functions and geographies to find answers to emerging challenges.
Position Responsibilities:
Work with tax and accounting teams to understand and document policy and technical issues.
Keep up with changes in global tax rules and advise on compliance needs and planning opportunities.
Improve data and business processes to meet new tax modeling and compliance requirements.
Communicate with and support different teams affected by GMT through education and providing necessary tax data.
After the initial setup, you'll help maintain and optimize the entire GMT program:
Conduct GMT modeling and tax calculations for financial reporting and compliance purposes.
Collaborate with and review the work of third-party service providers.
Coordinate with local tax and finance teams to meet compliance needs.
Work with Group Tax teams on planning, compliance, and reporting.
Required Qualifications:
CPA or equivalent accounting qualification.
Experience leading or contributing to major change projects.
Ability to learn quickly and adapt to new concepts.
Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks under pressure.
Clear communication skills for explaining complex tax and financial matters.
Ability to influence and articulate ideas to different audiences.
Proficient in MS Office, especially Excel.
Understanding Manulife’s business, along with financial analysis and reporting skills, will be key success factors for this position.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in corporate taxation, especially in insurance, is a plus.
Knowledge of Power BI, Power Apps, data fundamentals, and SQL is advantageous

Salary range is expected to be between
$86,250.00 CAD - $155,250.00 CAD
