Your future starts here. PURPOSE OF THE POSITION: Our dynamic Signals and Communications (S&C) team is integral to ensuring the safe and efficient movement of trains. We are currently seeking a Red Seal Electrician to join our operations team as an Electrical Specialist. In this role, you will oversee and manage the electrical transmission and control systems within the MacDonald, Connaught, and Shaughnessy tunnels. You will also take charge of designing and installing various electrical circuits in compliance with residential and commercial building standards, while adhering to all safety protocols and regulations for electrical installations. POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES: Install, maintain, test, troubleshoot, service and repair industrial electrical equipment, system monitoring hardware and associated electrical controls in the MacDonald, Connaught, and Shaughnessy tunnel as well as power substations and subsequent switch gear and power infrastructure hardware Position, maintain and install distribution and control equipment such as switches, lighting fixtures, electrical conduit and controls, relays, circuit breaker panels, switch gear and fuse enclosures Read and understand blueprints of electrical circuits for all construction, maintenance, tunnel, and infrastructure Adhere to safety procedures and requirements for all electrical isolations and maintenance tasks Manage the layout and installation of various electrical circuits using residential and commercial building standards Assess tunnel operations requirements and assist with coordinating and refining roles with the Tunnel Management Use test instruments and various tools necessary to perform tasks Safe use of common hand and power tools Work on call to ensure 24/7 coverage for the tunnels and infrastructure assets POSITION REQUIREMENTS: Licensed electrician (Red Seal) in the province of British Columbia Strong working knowledge in Low, Medium and High voltage 7200KV/4160V/13.8KV/34.5KV, primary power and all types of wiring Must have expert and practical knowledge of120/208/240/480/600 Volts Alternating Current (VAC) single and three phase systems Must possess a valid class 5 driver’s license, preference given to class 3 with air brake endorsement Must be able to obtain and hold a Canadian Railway Operating Rules card, minimum level “D” Previous work history providing the ability to attain a Field Safety Representative-A ticket (Master Electrician) is an asset Knowledge and understanding of electrical theory, application to lighting, power, control equipment, relevant industry codes including Canadian Electrical Code Work outdoors in all types of weather conditions for long periods of time at heights and in confined spaces and achieve required certifications Ability to travel alone, work independently and respond to emergent work past normal working hours WHAT CPKC HAS TO OFFER: Flexible and competitive benefits package Competitive company pension and/or retirement plans Employee Share Purchase Plan Performance Incentive Plan Annual Fitness Subsidy Part-time Studies Program PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS: Medical and Drug Testing This is a safety sensitive position and a successful pre-employment medical assessment including physical, vision, hearing, and a negative company drug test is required.
