Hiring Unit: Department of Bioengineering Position: Course Lecturer Course Code and Title: BIEN 300 - Thermodynamics in Bioengineering Position and course description: The candidate will be responsible for the teaching, course management, and grading activities in the course. Applicants must be familiar with the course content: Internal Energy, Work, The three Laws of Thermodynamics, Enthalpy, and Entropy. Basic concepts of energy in living organisms: distribution of energy, energy conservation in living organisms, isothermal systems, Gibbs free energy in chemical coupling, reversible processes and redox reactions. Application of Thermodynamics in defining biological processes and components such as hydrolysis, osmosis, ELISA, PCR, DNA, amino acids, proteins. Teaching Qualification Requirements: Ph.D. in Engineering or the Natural Sciences At least 1 year teaching experience Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) license required (or in progress). Expertise in fundamentals of thermodynamics, physical and chemical equilibrium. Knowledge of biological systems and/or biochemistry desired. Demonstrated knowledge of spoken and written English. Strong problem‐solving skills and flexible approach to teaching.
