Location: Edmonton or Calgary | Hybrid | Casual | Union Position
About the Opportunity
At CKUA, sound is a thread that ties together community, creativity, and culture. As an Announcer Producer, you’ll help bring that thread to life -- on air, online, and in the hearts of listeners across Alberta and beyond. Whether you’re spinning tracks that make people feel something, sharing a story between songs, or helping someone discover a new artist, your voice will play a vital role in shaping how people experience CKUA.
This is a casual position with hours that vary based on programming needs. Some weeks may include multiple fill-in shifts, while others may not include any. It’s a flexible opportunity to contribute meaningfully to CKUA’s sound and community on an as-needed basis. The role is hybrid: you’ll prep from wherever you work best (home, studio, café), but you’ll need to be in-studio, either in Edmonton or Calgary, to host a program live.
You’ll join a community of passionate broadcasters, music lovers, and creatives who care deeply about what radio can be: personal, inspiring, unexpected, and true.
How You’ll Make an Impact
As an Announcer Producer, you’ll curate and host engaging radio programs that reflect CKUA – programming that inspires and connects through the power of music, arts, culture, and story. You’ll select music with intention, build thoughtful flow and transitions, and bring insight, warmth, and originality to your delivery.
Your role includes planning and organizing your show, researching and preparing notes, operating studio equipment during live broadcasts, and ensuring each segment reflects the quality and spirit CKUA is known for. You’ll be responsive to listener engagement, participate in special programming or fill-in shifts when needed, and collaborate closely with producers and colleagues to make great radio happen.
You’ll create content that respects CKUA’s legacy while helping shape its future—offering your own voice while honoring the music and community it serves.
What You Bring
You are someone who builds positive, respectful relationships and approaches your work in a way that reflects CKUA’s values of Community, Diversity, Inclusion, Creativity, Curiosity, and Authenticity.
You bring curiosity, presence, and a personal connection to the music you share. Whether you’ve hosted on radio, produced a podcast, or built your own digital shows, you know how to create an experience—not just a playlist. You may have formal training in broadcasting or media, but lived experience, creativity, and an authentic voice are just as important.
You’re comfortable working independently and managing the full cycle of a program from planning and recording, to live delivery and engagement. You’re confident using tools like Adobe Audition or OMT, or you’re willing to learn. And when you’re in the studio, you thrive under the lights (and sometimes the pressure) of live radio.
Most importantly, you bring a collaborative spirit and a desire to contribute to an inclusive, community-driven media space. You value diversity of sound and story, and you know the importance of making space for different perspectives.
