The Senior Business Analyst will support delivery of healthcare customer
projects, with a focus on functional requirements gathering, analysis, and
documentation. This includes the creation of Functional Requirements Documents,
user stories, use cases, process flows, and light data mapping activities (e.g.,
HL7 v2 to FHIR). Familiarity with FHIR, interoperability standards, and CMS
mandates is a strong plus. The role is critical to successful implementations,
working closely with developers, Solution Architects, Product Managers, and
customer stakeholders to ensure high-quality delivery.

Responsibilities:
- Gather and document functional, non-functional, and technical requirements
using stakeholder workshops, interviews, and appropriate
requirement-gathering techniques.
- Lead process redesign and gap analysis for both frontend/backend solutions
and integrations with Smile Digital Health’s FHIR-based clinical data
repository.
- Prepare Functional Requirements Documents (FRDs), BRDs, user stories,
acceptance criteria, and process maps to support customer and internal
projects.
- Link customer requirements to project objectives and priorities, ensuring
alignment with Smile’s platform capabilities.
- Collaborate closely with developers, Solution Architects, Product Managers,
Technical Leads, and Technical Account Managers to deliver the best possible
solutions.
- Produce documentation to a high standard, including clear, concise reports
and presentations that communicate complex concepts effectively.
- Own and deliver work packages of moderate to large size and complexity,
balancing both Agile and waterfall delivery approaches.
- Help Agile leads facilitate Agile ceremonies such as sprint planning, backlog
grooming, sprint reviews, and retrospectives as needed.
- Apply judgment and experience to solve problems, identify risks, and address
issues proactively.
- Apply change management techniques to support smooth adoption and positive
outcomes in complex environments.
- Identify and suggest improvements in internal processes and contribute to the
creation of best practices.
- Mentor, lead, and assist associate/intermediate Business and Integration
Analysts on the team.
- Ensure accurate and timely reporting of all working hours, with proper use of
the project management tool for billable tracking.
Requirements:
- 8+ years of experience in business analysis with proven delivery in
healthcare IT projects.
- Post-secondary education in business, information systems, healthcare,
engineering, or equivalent combination of education/experience.
- Strong experience in functional requirements gathering and documentation,
including FRDs, BRDs, user stories, use cases, acceptance criteria, and
process flows.
- Proven familiarity with HL7 v2, CDA, and FHIR standards, including data
mapping, REST APIs, JSON, and CQL.
- Experience working with different databases (SQL and related technologies)
and a basic understanding of cloud deployment models (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
- Experience collaborating with developers, Solution Architects, Product
Managers, and customer stakeholders on interoperability projects.
- Strong awareness of healthcare standards and regulations (HIPAA, CMS, HEDIS,
NCQA) and emerging IT trends.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to
translate complex technical concepts into clear documentation for diverse
audiences.
- Skilled in stakeholder engagement, facilitation, and negotiation, with a
proven track record of building strong relationships.
- Knowledge of Agile (Scrum, Kanban) and waterfall methodologies.
- Proficiency with JIRA, Confluence, and diagramming tools (Lucidchart, Draw.io
[http://Draw.io]).
- Preferred certifications: HL7 FHIR Developer, HL7 Certified Educator, CBAP,
CCBA.
- Preferred background: Educational or professional experience in engineering
or healthcare
