Technical Specialist/SME Cladding
Reporting to Director of Drafting & Technical Support on all matters. The Technical Specialist/SME shall ensure the accuracy and completeness of all shop drawings produced for the Cladding and Railings metal panel/features. Manage and oversee all outsourced drawings with the assistance of the drafting team. Monitor, maintain and report on all drawing review activities of the department and or any assigned project that contributes to the design, manufacturing, delivery and installation of State Cladding products. Assist and mentor the Cladding drafters as required. Lead and organize drafting risk reviews prior to shop drawing commencement and prior to breakdown. Duties and responsibilities are not limited to the following:
Administrative Tasks
Communication and participation with coworkers, consultants, clients, daily by telephone, email and in person;
Write letters, memos and emails. Prioritize emails and phone calls and respond in a priority order on a daily basis;
Work in a team environment by demonstrating State's Core Values;
Keep an organized and continuously updated file structure for all documents;
Provide training and mentorship to new hires as required; and
Log and track all work executed in the State standard format where available.
Education
Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Architectural Technology, Construction Management, or Civil Engineering; and
Project Management Professional Certification is an asset or equivalent work experience.
Years of Experience
Minimum of 5+ years of working experience in Metal Cladding and/or equivalent/Architectural construction experience.
Working Conditions
Reports to site/office;
On site work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks that require knowledge of an adherence to basic safety procedures and precautions.
Promote health and safety in the office and plant;
Work environment requires wearing PPE, following health and safety standards on site, in the plant and in certain other locations;
At times requires driving a company vehicle to visit sites, clients or suppliers; and
Flexible to work overtime as required.

In depth understanding of State Cladding details and installation practices to guide the successful preparation of the shop drawing, design, assist activities with the client and preparation of projects for production and execution;
Technical expert in Cladding shop drawings, architectural drawings, take off and breakdown;
Ability to manage both local and remote locations working with operations, clients and other stakeholders;
Technical ability to work with R&D on new product enhancement and suggest improvement activities to streamline the shop drawing process and contribute to CI in manufacturing and installation;
Strong technical leader with excellent project management and time management planning ability with a sense of urgency to address demands of department to achieve submission schedules;
Manage your time to support the demands of shop drawing preparation to meet the milestones;
Discretion, judgment and tact to handle confidential information;
Must have exceptional interpersonal and excellent oral and written communication skills;

Job Specific Duties
Assist Cladding department drafters to achieve the needs of the client and the Sales and Ops plan;
Review site scans and measurements to convey directions/interpretations to the drafting team;
Stay aligned with all schedules and State SOP’s;
Prepare weekly pulse tracker for presentation in the Pulse meeting;
Participate and provide feedback in New product development initiatives with R&D to support quoting of projects, mock-ups and business development;
Attend Site meetings where a technical presence is required;
Support execution team in resolving discrepancies between site and shop drawings as required;
Reviewing initial field layouts;
Provide technical assistance for troubleshooting breakdown or detailing issues;
Work with R&D and Director of Engineering to review shop drawing details as required for standard drawing library;
Assist drafting team in managing outsourced drafting resources to ensure drawing accuracy and adherence to standards;
Create or revise SOP’s as necessary for work undertaken within the Cladding department to help guide all employees, specifically new hires;
Work with drafters to maintain department trackers for all engineering tasks as required to ensure projects undertaken by State are delivered on time, and on quality;
Review, comment and address consultant’s mark-ups as required to assist drafters completing FCS;
Attending as required, scheduled consultant coordination and/or page turn meetings;
Representing State Cladding in business with customers, consultants, contractors and other public and /or private agencies and organizations as requested;
Review and approve first install;
Flag and provide suggestions for details which cannot be installed or manufactured as drawn;
Identify details which may require an internal mockup to validate fabrication and takeoff;
Review drafters release randomly for quality and completeness as CI audits;
All shop drawing reviews – Cladding, Railings features, and complicated Railings panel slab covers;
Create and maintain risk log for all cladding projects;
Assist sales with scope and provide guidance for material, applications and proper takeoff;
Assist FM’s with trouble shooting site conditions and devising solutions as required;
Provide guidance on field equipment;
Support FM’s as the field SME for cladding and any scope metal cladding or panel related field issues;
Lead development of State metal cladding systems;
Provide support related to our system assembly, install, fabrication, fastener type etc.; and
Any other tasks assigned by the Director of Drafting & Technical Support
