About the Role & Team
We are looking for a Data Science Co-op to join our Football Sports Modeling
Data team. Our Sports Modeling team Penn is responsible for building models,
forecasts, and simulations to help improve theScore Bet and ESPN Bet products.
Our team values creativity, collaboration, ingenuity, and ownership. We are
looking for someone who is interested in joining a team responsible for building
end-to-end sports data products to further our team’s mission of creating an
enterprise grade foorball data product.
About the Work
- Football Data Analysis: Assist in analyzing NFL/NCAAFB play-by-play, player,
and team data to help evaluate game trends, player performance, and matchup
dynamics.
- Model Building: Support the development and testing of predictive models for
football outcomes (e.g., player stats, game results, betting markets).
- Data Pipeline Support: Work with data and infrastructure engineers to ensure
football data is collected, cleaned, and processed for modeling and
analysis.
- Research & Documentation: Conduct research on football rules, strategies, and
historical data; maintain clear documentation of data sources, features, and
project progress.
- Collaboration: Partner with data scientists to debug code, add features, and
explore new approaches for football analytics.
- Communication: Share findings on football trends, player or team insights,
and model performance with the team in a clear and concise way.
- Other duties as required.
About You
- Currently enrolled in a Computer Science degree, Statistics, Business, or
related field.
- Coding Skills: Moderate proficiency in Python and SQL.
- Data Skills: Able to handle data wrangling skills around JSON and tabular
data.
- Analytical Skills: Strong problem-solving skills with an interest in sports
data.
- Team Player: Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Eager to Learn: Enthusiastic about learning new techniques and technologies
in data science.
Nice to Have
- Familiarity with Machine Learning: Familiarity with machine learning concepts
and techniques.
- Experience with Sports Data: Any experience or coursework related to sports
data analysis (specifically for NFL/NCAAFB)
- Cloud Knowledge: Familiarity with cloud services like AWS or GCP.
- Version Control: Basic knowledge of version control systems like GitHub.
