POSITION SUMMARY:
The Community Pastor plays a significant leadership role in the Mustard Seed Street Church (MSSC). S/he is a person of mature faith and deep Christian commitment, working in pastoral ministry and focusing pastoral care with our Queens Ave. location community in Victoria (BC). Opportunity may arise to expand scope of pastoral engagement with our Healing Centre community at Hope Farm in Duncan (BC). The Community Pastor loves the Lord Jesus Christ, His church, His body, and has a passion for serving. The position centers on and encompasses specific pastoral responsibilities to the MSSC worshipping community and the community we serve in Victoria, related to the spiritual care, guidance, mission, and promotion of the MSSC and its associated street community. The Community Pastor is under the direction of the Senior/Lead Pastor.
THE MUSTARD SEED STREET CHURCH
We are a street church in Victoria British Columbia, currently celebrating 50 years in ministry, who is closely involved in caring for our inner-city community through the love of Christ, while creating opportunities for all to experience food security through our Food Security Distribution Centre (providing food for more than 65,000 people/month), our Market/Food Bank, Hope Farm, and daily snacks/meals. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Ministries and Leadership
The ability to teach/equip MSSC Queens Ave. worshipping community members and may be involved in offering spiritual equipping/support/direction for the developing worshipping community at MSSC Hope Farm Healing Centre (3504 Drinkwater Rd).
The ability to preach biblically with the Gospel as the center of the sermon.
Will work in concert with the Pastoral Team in the development and delivery of sermon series with an interest to share a message 2-3 months with our Sunday gathering congregation.
Cares for the evangelistic approach and equipping of the MSSC congregation and community for the public sharing of the Gospel through ministries streaming from the MSSC.
Promotes and speaks on church membership, discipleship, and leadership. Is actively engaged in discipleship through offering teaching and practical opportunities for development of life in Christ.
Presents and teaches at other churches as assigned and/or approved by the Senior Pastor
Takes part in chapel services at MSSC Queens Ave. and may be available for weekend meal ministries (Friday evenings or Saturdays) for pastoral care and team/management support.
Helps usher in the spiritual direction of the MSSC worshipping community under the leadership of the Senior/Lead Pastor.
Finds involvement and leadership in other events associated with the MSSC.
MSSC Worshipping Community (625 Queens Avenue)
Provides Spirit-led, Christ-centered leadership for the well-being of the MSSC body of believers.
Involved in planning Sunday services, arranging worship leaders, organizing preaching schedule, and participation in preaching (2-3 times/month).
Provides weekly pastoral care along with nurturing of the congregation with all other Pastors and Elders of the MSSC.
Builds up disciples, invites believers into an ever-deepening commitment in Christ through active service, to compliment the ministries of MSSC body.
Collaborates with the Pastoral Team on appropriate and best Sunday Worship delivery, our welcome of the body of believers, prayer ministry, and our offering of help for community in need.
The Community Pastor will be open for involvement in other ministries of the MSSC as need arises in ministries associated with the MSSC congregation.
Attends Pastoral Team meetings as available.
The Community Pastor may be involved in the Christian spiritual care for the developing worshipping community of Hope Farm in cooperation with Hope Farm Staff leadership and the MSSC Pastoral Team staff.
Draws near to the Senior/Lead Pastor and Pastoral Leadership Team in the development of programs or events that seek to connect MSSC Hope Farm with MSSC Victoria and Esquimalt.
May be called upon to work closely with Hope Farm’s Administrator and future residence coordinator in nurturing the Christian spiritual development for residents who access farm ministries for healing/recovery.
Characteristics, Abilities & Qualifications
The Community Pastor will have a thorough understanding (and compassion for) the MSSC in Victoria and its associated communities (MSSC Food Distribution Centre in Esquimalt and MSSC Hope Farm Healing Centre in Duncan). S/he will both understand and adhere to the ministry purpose, vision, and mission of MSSC. The Community Pastor will have the ability to minister in a setting of deep need and will be available to offer Pastoral Care for Staff, Volunteer, and Community Members of the MSSC in Victoria and its associated communities. The incumbent will be a minister in good standing with the Canadian Baptists of Western Canada (CBWC), or is willing to be affirmed by the CBWC, ordained to the gospel ministry of Jesus Christ and the mission of the Trinity.
The incumbent will have previous experience in church revitalization, and experience in worship leadership will be noticed as an asset. Preference may be given to those with experience working with and/or serving homeless and marginalized populations. A Master of Divinity degree (or education and experience equivalent) is recommended for this position.
A beneficial reworking of this job description may be put in place as negotiated by the successful candidate and Senior/Lead Pastor.
