Canadian Hearing Services (CHS) has an opening for an Intervenor role based in Ignace. Reporting to the Supervisor, Intervening Services, the Intervenor will act as a communicator and sighted guide for individuals with a combined loss of hearing and sight to provide access to information and facilitate interaction with their environment and surroundings. Additional responsibilities will involve assisting with daily tasks, transporting and accompanying clients to and from assignments and/or appointments, and providing support regarding assistive devices, etc.
This is a part-time contract position, working as needed up to a maximum of 24 hours per week, between the hours of 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., for one year.
The ideal candidate would have a Diploma in Deafblind services or equivalent, e.g. studies in humanities or community (e.g. Personal Support Worker, Social Work, Gerontology), and/or three to five years’ experience working with individuals who are deafblind. Formal training in ASL would be an asset. Bilingualism (French/English) as well as LSQ training and alternative communication skills. A valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle is required for frequent local (as well as occasional out of town) travel with clients.
