The Tla’amin Community Recreation Department is looking for two to three Recreation Workers to assist in leading a diverse range of programs and activities, ensuring participants' safety and well-being. With shifts ranging from 2 to 8 hours, this position provides a flexible schedule that supports a healthy work-life balance.
Key Responsibilities
Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with Tla’amin policies, standards, practices and procedures as directed by the Recreation Manager. Maintains confidentiality as required pertaining to members, clients, employees and general matters of the Nation.
Assists in organizing and planning daily and monthly activities.
Leading a variety of games, crafts, sports and other activities while engaging with the children to provide a fun and safe experience.
Ensuring the safety of participants at all times.
Assists with evaluating program content and participant satisfaction.
Cleaning, setting up and taking down equipment before, during and after programs.
Organizing equipment storage.
Monitoring and maintaining the quality, appearance, and safety of all equipment.
Assists Recreation Coordinator in related program duties and promotion of programs
Build relationships with all ages, but most importantly with the čičuy (children) and parents/guardians to ensure information is shared clearly.
Checking and responding to work related emails daily and responding accordingly.
Performing other related duties as required.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships with all ages.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written, and ability to build strong relationships and deal with people in a professional manner.
Ability to keep accurate records and produce required written reports.
Demonstrated leadership skills, enthusiasm and positive attitude when relating to all ages and the public.
Good organizational and planning skills.
Passionate about recreation and able to lead indoor and outdoor activities.
Basic computer skills including MS work and Outlook.
Physical ability to lift and move program related equipment.
Knowledge of recreational and social interests and of various recreational activities such as games, sports, arts & summer activities
Ensuring a safe environment for all and overseeing sign-in and sign-out of program participants.
Leading activities with enthusiasm, instructing based on activity objectives, and adjusting activities based on age, skill, and physical abilities.
Ensuring that appropriate skills are being taught to participants and progression through levels takes place.
Demonstrating ability to work effectively in a team setting while supporting other leaders, as needed.
Providing exceptional customer service.
Qualifications
An original Police Information Check, including Vulnerable Sector Check.
Minimum 19 years of age.
Responsible Adult Certification
Completion of Grade 12 with an interest in pursuing post-secondary education in the field of Recreation, or previous experience working with and leading a wide range of programs for children and youth is an asset
Food Safe Certificate
First Aid Certificate minimum 8-hour course.
BC Driver’s License “Class 5” and an acceptable BC drivers abstract required.
BC Driver’s License “Class 4” preferred.
Work Conditions
Work is performed in the morning, afternoon, and evening in both indoor and outdoor environments, participating in and facilitating group activities for different age groups of children, youth and adults.
Must be able to lift and move equipment and be at a reasonable level of physical fitness to successfully perform tasks.
Some office work/computer work is required.
