Why You’ll Love This Role We are seeking an experienced Principal Designer specializing in the design, development, and optimization of Indium Phosphide (InP)-based photodiodes and photonic integrated circuits (PICs). The ideal candidate will play a pivotal role in defining and executing advanced optoelectronic device architectures for developing world-leading optical components for use in ultra-high data rate systems for cloud data centre, 5G mobile and coherent telecommunications optical fibre networks. What You’ll Be Doing Lead the design and simulation of InP-based photodiodes (APDs, PINs) and PICs for high-speed optical communication applications. Drive end-to-end development from device concept through layout, fabrication process definition, packaging considerations, and full electrical/optical characterization. Collaborate with foundries and internal process teams to define and validate fabrication process flows tailored to PD and PIC performance targets. Own and manage the design verification, tolerance analysis, and performance optimization using industry-standard simulation tools (e.g., Lumerical, R-soft, Ansys). Work closely with systems, packaging, reliability, and test engineering teams to ensure product integration readiness and reliability compliance. Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers and designers. Contribute to intellectual property development, including patents and technical publications. Stay abreast of emerging InP material systems, novel device structures, and competitive photonic integration technologies What We’re Looking For Education: Master's or PhD degree in Physics or Electrical Engineering or a related field. Experience: Minimum 10 years of applicable experience in the field of semiconductor optical device design, test and/or fabrication. Skills: Strong background in physics, electronic/electrical engineering or a related discipline Specific relevant areas of previous experience include semiconductor materials and devices, semiconductor lasers, semiconductor optical amplifiers (SOA), optical modulators, detectors, photonic integrated circuits (PIC), PIC design software, microwave/millimeter-wave RF, and 10/40/100G circuitry.
