Position: Director, Model Risk Management

Compensation Details:
· Director Quantitative Analysis 20: Salaries typically range from $ 127,380 to $ 169,838 annually, based on qualifications and experiences, plus a performance-based incentive.
Location:
Export Development Canada operates in a hybrid work environment, currently requiring employees to work in the office 3 days per week. (subject to change)
This role can be performed from EDC’s headquarters in Ottawa or from one of our Community Hubs located in Toronto, Mississauga, Montreal, Brossard, Laval, Calgary, Edmonton, Halifax, or Vancouver.
Relocation assistance is available for candidates who meet the eligibility criteria.

Team Overview:
EDC is seeking a leader to head the Model Risk Management (MRM) team within the Risk Quantification Group. The MRM team provides independent oversight of EDC’s models through governance, validation, and expert advisory, ensuring alignment with sound risk management, capital adequacy, and financial sustainability.
Reporting to the VP, Risk Quantification, the Director will lead a team responsible for model governance, validation, risk reporting, and enterprise advisory. The role requires a proven leader with deep technical expertise, strategic vision, and the ability to influence senior stakeholders while shaping model risk practices tailored to EDC’s size, appetite and mandate.
What you will be doing:
· Lead the development and continuous improvement of EDC’s model risk framework, policies, and standards.
· Oversee independent model validation, assessing conceptual soundness, performance, data quality, implementation, and use.
· Deliver model risk reporting that provides actionable insights to senior management, committees, and Board.
· Build strong relationships to ensure validation findings are business-informed, pragmatic, and aligned with corporate objectives.
· Provide thought leadership on model governance and emerging risks, including AI/ML models.
· Support audit and compliance readiness related to model risk.
· Mentor and develop a high-performing team, fostering a culture of excellence and collaboration.
· Represent EDC externally in industry forums and peer networks to stay current on best practices and trends.
What we are looking for:
· Undergraduate degree in a quantitative discipline (Finance, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Computer Science, or related).
· 10+ years of experience in quantitative or model risk management.
· 5+ years in leadership roles, including direct people and performance management.
· Deep expertise in model lifecycle, governance, and validation.
· Strong communication skills with the ability to influence senior and executive stakeholders.
· Proven ability to communicate complex concepts clearly and persuasively, both in writing and in verbal interactions, with senior and executive stakeholders.
· Proven ability to lead teams and manage relationships across complex environments.
· Ability to incorporate feedback from diverse stakeholders, including first-line business units.
· Demonstrated enterprise impact through innovation, collaboration, and problem solving.
· Excellent writing skills.
· Bilingual in both official languages (English and French)
What will make you stand out:
· Graduate degree in a quantitative discipline.
· Professional designations such as Fellow of the Actuarial Society, FRM.
· Experience with credit risk, capital, or insurance models, ideally within a financial services or Crown corporation environment.
· Familiarity with regulatory guidance (Basel, OSFI E-23, IFRS 9, IFRS 17).
