As a self-motivated Mechanical Design Engineer at Zaber, you’ll have a co-op
term filled with challenging, hands-on projects with a mix of design work and
project management.
You’ll work within our Sustaining Engineering team to assist with identifying
and pursuing opportunities to optimize our products and continue to make Zaber
devices irresistible to our users. Our mechanical, electrical, and software
engineers will support you, and you'll have full access to our well-equipped
machine shop, which includes a waterjet, laser cutter, lathes, mills (both
manual and CNC), and numerous other tools.
By joining Zaber, you’ll contribute to the manufacturing of precision motion
control equipment for applications in fields such as photonics, biotechnology,
aerospace, and semiconductor engineering.
MECHANICAL DESIGN ENGINEER RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Design, manufacture, and test new fixtures, mechanical components, and
electro-mechanical device prototypes.
- Prepare solid models and manufacturing drawings for new and custom assemblies
using SolidWorks.
- Measure, evaluate, and improve manufacturing efficiencies.
- Collaborate with Marketing, Production, Electronics, and Mechanical
Engineering teams to develop and improve products and processes.
MECHANICAL DESIGN ENGINEER DESIRED QUALITIES:
- Passion for mechanical systems and hands-on experience (experience with
precision equipment an asset).
- Excellent communication skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to self-manage and prioritize multiple tasks.
- Programming knowledge in Python or C# an asset.
- Machine shop experience an asset.
- Currently enrolled in a degree or diploma program.
MECHANICAL DESIGN ENGINEER DETAILS:
- Wage: The starting wage for the role is $24 - $28/hour depending on
experience.
- Closing Date: Sep 22, 2025.
- Start Date: January 2026.
- Length of position: 8 months preferred, 4 months optional.
