Purpose of Role The Specialist, Clients and Markets will be responsible for providing support in the business development needs of the regional office and local practice groups to enable revenue growth for the Firm, in alignment with the Firm’s strategic plan. This role reports to the Director, Regional Business Development – Calgary office. Specific Areas of Responsibility The Specialist, Clients and Markets is responsible for the implementation of the regional business development plan, activating local practice group plans, managing community and business sponsorship activities, coordinating client team and client content programming (including value adds, small events, tickets, etc.) and related office business development and marketing activities. The Specialist, Clients and Markets is responsible for meeting the following responsibilities of the role. Key Responsibilities Help develop and drive implementation of the regional business development plan and help activate local practice group plans, working proactively to define and deliver a coordinated business development strategy for the group amongst different regions; Identify opportunities to showcase thought leadership materials, create eminence and visibility for the Firm and improve rankings of our lawyers in the marketplace; Partner with the business development and marketing teams to facilitate the achievement of business development plans and initiatives in each office, and ensure that regional initiatives and expenses are aligned with the national plan; Execute some cross-servicing initiatives with other practice groups and proactively seek out business development opportunities with existing and potential clients; Support targeting programs (development of prospect identification and client growth strategies) and stay abreast of issues facing regional and practice group clients and relevant industry challenges and teams; Manage business development programs and small key client events to attract new business; Assist the practice groups in the development and production of proposals for business development opportunities, and content and marketing collateral for initiatives including seminars, conferences, industry association and other opportunities to enhance BLG visibility; Assist with submissions for various legal directories, guides and lists and monitor the evaluation process in coordination with the group members and the Director, Business Development; Support prospecting and client growth strategies by monitoring industry trends and client needs for client teams; Execute initiatives to deepen relationships with existing clients and identify new business opportunities; Reviewing and updating data in CRM and downloading distribution lists/reports; Manage systems and processes to track, measure and report on return on investment (ROI) results of BD initiatives and key client events; Plan and implement sponsorship programs and determine appropriate strategies to gain maximum marketing benefit for the firm; Support the client team leaders to develop and execute action plans; Support the Director, Regional Business Development with general administrative tasks including assistance with the planning and preparing of the business development budget and expenses for the region; Conduct business developent onboarding for new lawyers, including new hires and associates; Ensure lawyer bios are completed, including scheduling photo sessions; Drive and manage event participation and follow up, as needed; and Other marketing and business development projects, as assigned. Key Competencies Undergraduate education in Business Administration, Marketing, or a relevant field A minimum of 5 years of progressive business development or marketing experience, preferably in a professional services environment Demonstrated ability to work in a matrix management environment Knowledge of financial reporting concepts and quantitative analysis methods In-depth understanding of legal and business environments Strong executive presence and conduct, able to work with Senior Management of the Firm; Experience implementing programs to successful completion Demonstrated experience in all aspects of business development and marketing Strong strategic and analytical thinking skills Strong project and time management skills and ability to manage a variety of concurrent projects Established knowledge of Microsoft Office suite software (e.g., Word, Excel, Powerpoint) and CRM Strong organization and teamwork skills Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment, with strong attention to detail and the ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines Bilingual (French and English) would be considered an asset Strong oral and enhanced written communication skills Availability to work occasional overtime BLG is committed to building a diverse workplace reflective of the communities we serve and to fostering an inclusive culture where Firm members feel valued, respected and inspired to thrive as their authentic selves.
