The KBA team is currently seeking an Automotive/Aviation Paint Technician.Job DescriptionThe Automotive/Aviation Paint Technician directly reports to the Paint Shop Manager for guidance on tasks, work priorities, and any issues that arise. They are responsible for communicating any challenges related to the painting process, materials, equipment, or safety concerns. The Paint Technician works closely with the Paint Shop Manager to resolve issues quickly and ensure smooth and efficient operations.Major Responsibilities of the Role:Perform sanding, masking, and surface preparation on composite and metal components for spray applicationInstall masks, stencils, and fine-line stripes or designs manually using tape (or learn on the job)Assist with painting large wing and fuselage components in line with industrial standardsClean, sand, and prep surfaces for high-build paint applications; manage seam sealing as neededApply metal prep solutions, primers, base coats, and finish coats using approved spray and chemical methodsEnsure all surfaces are clean, debris-free, and ready before paint applicationUnmask painted parts, inspect for defects, and perform necessary touch-ups and detailingComplete all documentation and inspection records related to paint processesFollow Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs), safety protocols, company policies, and the Paint Shop Procedures ManualConduct pre-paint checks to catch issues like missed masking, bodywork imperfections, or seam-sealing voidsCollaborate with painters and prep technicians to maintain efficiency and a smooth workflowFollow lead technician guidance and maintain responsibility for quality in your assigned section or componentMonitor inventory levels of paint and materials; keep work area organized and cleanProperly maintain and report issues with tools, equipment, and hanging hardwareRegularly inspect and calibrate spray equipment for optimal performanceMaintain paint-shop cleanliness, storage, and cabinet areasIdentify and report paint defects or procedural issues to the Paint Shop Manager promptlySupport training efforts by sharing best practices with junior technicians under guidanceCoordinate with production or maintenance teams to maintain workflow continuityAdhere to safety protocols, including safe ladder use and proper handling of materials around aircraftManage time effectively to meet project timelines without compromising qualityPerform other tasks as assigned by the Paint Shop Manager QualificationsMinimum 3 years of experience in spray painting, body shop, or factory painting (aircraft or automotive preferred).Skilled in prepping, masking and sandingStrong attention to detail and ability to follow technical specifications.Able to read and interpret paint design drawings.Knowledge of safety procedures in paint or aircraft environments.Strong communication skills and ability to work well in a team.Physically capable of lifting up to 50 lbs and working in physically demanding conditionsAdditional InformationKenn Borek Air offers a comprehensive employment package containing competitive wages, an excellent company-funded benefits program, a wellness flexible spending account, and an RRSP matching program.
