Our Estimating team is currently looking to add an Estimator (Overhead Transmission Lines) to our growing team, based in Calgary, AB.
Reporting to the Manager, Transmission Estimating, this position compiles cost estimates for services related to overhead power transmission line construction. Working off a bill of quantities or a set of drawings from the client, estimators provide prices for various work by determining costs and creating budgets accordingly, including assessing material, labour and equipment required and analyzing quotes from sub-contractors and suppliers. Our Estimators strive to build the best pricing to support competitive bidding, while ensuring profitably.
Duties and Responsibilities
Work with Engineering, Procurement and other internal stakeholders to translate project requirements into execution / construction plans
Build estimates (including Crew and Labour, Productivity Rates) and review / validate outsourced estimates
Review Design Basis, Engineering Design Documents, and Basis of Estimate
Develop complete estimates for management review
Provide guidance to Project Managers and other non-estimating personnel
Attend and assist in project planning sessions and team meetings to provide estimating input
Develop business relationships with subcontractors and suppliers for pricing
Develop or assist in the development of general and project specific plans for execution, sequencing, and logistics (including construction and work procedures for specific activities related to a bid)
Develop or assist in the development of preliminary project schedules
Post-Secondary Education in a related field (Degree, Diploma, Journeyman)
5 years experience with transmission line projects
Equivalent combination of experience and education may be considered (i.e. Powerline Technican Experience)
Strong computer skills
Ability to read technical drawings and specifications
Preferred Skills
Proven technical skills in estimating practices, techniques and equipment
Previous experience developing project schedules
Technical experience with Overhead Transmission Lines
