The Security Officer is responsible for maintaining the safety and security of personnel, property, and assets at Port Hawkesbury Paper. Employed by We’koqma’q First Nation, the Security Officer will follow established protocols to monitor access, conduct patrols, respond to incidents, and support a secure working environment.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Monitor and enforce access control procedures for employees, contractors, and visitors.
Conduct regular patrols of the facility to identify and report security risks or breaches.
Respond promptly and professionally to incidents, emergencies, and alarms.
Maintain accurate and detailed records of shift activities, incidents, and observations.
Collaborate with Port Hawkesbury Paper staff and report concerns to supervisors as needed.
Assist in implementing safety and emergency preparedness procedures.
Uphold site-specific protocols and promote a culture of safety and respect.
Participate in training sessions related to emergency response, conflict resolution, and site procedures.
Support onboarding and orientation of new personnel by providing security-related guidance.
Ensure compliance with company policies, safety regulations, and confidentiality requirements.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES
High school diploma or equivalent; additional training in security or law enforcement is an asset.
Minimum 1–2 years of experience in a security role, preferably in an industrial or mill environment.
Strong observational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions under pressure.
Professional, reliable, and able to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends.
Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required.
Familiarity with basic security technology (e.g., surveillance systems, access control) is an asset.
