The Senior Insurance and Risk Analyst is a key contributor to the City of Edmonton's risk management strategy. This position is accountable for providing expert advice on insurance and risk-related matters across various City portfolios. The role involves leading major projects, optimizing insurance programs, and developing and implementing policies and systems to ensure continuous improvement of core insurance functions. You will also have the opportunity to mentor junior and intermediate analysts, providing coaching and support.
What will you do?
Provide insurance and risk management advisory services, contracts, certificates, and performance security (e.g. bonds, Letters of Credit) reviews
Provide specialized expertise and advice on insurance requirements for new programs and major/complex contracts and initiatives (e.g., LRT, Construction, P3, OCIP, Joint Ventures)
Support the City's annual insurance program management & renewal by coordinating and preparation of application packages, researching innovative strategies, identifying coverage gaps and exploring suitable coverage options amongst other related functions
Support the Manager of Insurance with contract insurance standardization and implementation
Develop and implement policies, processes, and systems for continuous improvement
Manage insurance and risk management initiatives in collaboration with multi-disciplinary teams across the City
Prepare or support creation of insurance/risk reports and presentations for leadership decision making
Perform ongoing coaching and mentorship for junior/intermediate insurance & risk analysts
A Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Business, Insurance, Risk Management, Law, Public Administration, or a related field
A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience with insurance and risk management for complex contracts and initiatives
Working towards or having a RIMS Fellow (RF) in the Insurance Institute of Canada and/or a Fellow Chartered Insurance Professional (FCIP) designation
Assets:
In-depth experience with research and analytical skills in formulating recommendations within complex systems as well as continuous improvement initiatives
Leadership & mentorship experience
Knowledge of risk control processes
Skills required for success:
Ability to effectively interact, communicate, influence, and collaborate with a variety of partners and collaborators, including senior management and staff at all levels
Strong verbal and written communication skills, including report writing and presentation skills
Demonstrated ability to use business and political acumen to formulate recommendations, make decisions and assess the implications of those decisions

A Police Information Clearance that is satisfactory to the City of Edmonton and is a requirement of this position, there may be a cost associated with this requirement
