Position Summary Reporting to the Grid Engineering Manager, Squadron Energy, the Senior Electrical Design Engineer acts as a key subject matter expert for electrical BoP (eBoP) for wind, solar and battery storage systems at project development, construction, and operation stage. The Senior Electrical Design Engineer is responsible for establishing SQE in-house wind, solar, and battery storage systems eBoP design capability, with support from the Grid Engineering Manager, consultancy and a broader SQE team. The Senior Electrical Design Engineer will be at the forefront of leading eBoP tender process at the financial close stage, driving the eBoP design review at the construction stage, and providing ad-hoc expert support to operation projects. The Senior Electrical Design Engineer is responsible for grid connection related work as assigned. The Senior Electrical Design Engineer supervises and manages the Electrical Design Engineer and Graduate Electrical Design Engineer for their relevant work. This is a 12-month maximum term position covering parental leave. The position can be located at any of our office locations in Melbourne, Canberra, Sydney, Newcastle, or Brisbane. Key Responsibilities Leading the eBoP concept design of the HV substation, reticulation network and other eBoP work of the wind farm. Building in-house capability in this area. Selecting and optimizing the eBoP through the electrical design process. Undertaking the fault level and load flow calculations for power systems networks. Reading and interpreting site audit photos. Developing conceptual protection scheme and earthing systems. Leading the solar farm and battery systems electrical layout design. Leading the development of the eBoP functional specifications for wind and battery storage systems, evaluating the tender and leading negotiation of relevant contract. Managing the eBoP interface across various contractors at the financial close stage. Overseeing the design work of the eBoP design from the contractor at the construction stage. Providing expert support related to electrical design for operating assets. Managing and reviewing the Electrical Design Engineer and Graduate Design Engineer’s work. Managing the grid connection work as assigned, including the registration, connection application and compliance monitoring. Ensure the safety of designs through the application of specialist expertise, standards, reviews, risk assessments, and risk management. Skills and experience Experience and knowledge Minimum of 5-7 years of relevant work experience. Extensive and hand-on experience of the wind farm, solar and battery system eBoP design. Strong systems engineering mindset and design interface management capability. Solid understanding of International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) and Australian Standards (AS) of the HV systems. Experience with eBoP equipment specifications, tendering assessment and contract negotiations. Solid experience in reviewing the construction design drawing and managing the contractors. Experience in fault finding and commissioning of industrial power systems plant and equipment. Familiar with standard power flow and fault calculations tools. Good understanding in connection application, generator registration and negotiation of generator performance standards. Awareness of safety systems, legislation codes and contractual documentation.
