The Cook plays a vital role in supporting The Gathering Place’s commitment to nourishing and caring for over 2,000 Guests through its meal program. As part of a fast-paced, team-oriented kitchen environment, this role involves preparing and serving large-volume meals, maintaining sanitation standards, and working collaboratively with staff, volunteers, and Guests. Reporting to the Manager of Facilities, the incumbent will demonstrate flexibility, professionalism, and a deep respect for working in a trauma-informed, low-barrier environment serving vulnerable populations.
What You’ll Do
Prepare delicious, high-volume meals that nourish body and soul
Lead meal service for breakfast, dinner, and supper with precision and care
Keep the kitchen safe, clean, and organized (you know the drill—FIFO, logs, sanitization)
Support and guide volunteer crews like the kitchen pro you are
Work alongside staff and health professionals to support holistic Guest care
Work in a dynamic kitchen serving a vulnerable population with empathy, consistency, and respect
What You Bring
Food Safety Certification or commercial kitchen training
2–3 years in a commercial or institutional kitchen
Experience multitasking under pressure
Bonus points for knowledge of dietary restrictions and inclusive cooking
Kindness, professionalism, and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs
Clear Record of Conduct and Vulnerable Sector Check
Candidates must have a satisfactory performance and attendance record, which will be considered during the selection process.
