Under supervision and direction the Medical Laboratory Assistant is responsible for the proper collection of appropriate specimens for laboratory testing on inpatients and outpatients. The Lab Assistant performs a variety of laboratory tasks, which require learned manual skills rather than a technological training, to assist the trained technologists in various sections within the Department of Laboratory Medicine.
- Grade 12 education or recognized equivalent
- OSMT Certified Medical Laboratory Assistant Certificate
- Minimum (3 years) experience is required with demonstrated Order Entry Skills
- Demonstrated experience in receiving and handling Laboratory Specimens
- Demonstrated experience and demonstrated proficiency in venous and capillary blood collection and collection of other body fluids as necessary
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a team environment
- Data entry skills preferred
