This position will report to the General Foreman.

What You Will Do
Working under the direction of the General Foreman, the Yard Labourer is responsible for supporting yard operations, ensuring materials are handled efficiently, stored safely, and delivered to the appropriate areas to support production and dispatch. This is a physically active role requiring strong teamwork, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety.
Key Responsibilities

Workplace Safety
- Always practices safety in the workplace to protect self and others
- Complies with all safety policies and Occupational Health and Safety regulations
- Participates in safety meetings, toolbox talks, and hazard assessments

Yard Operations & Material Handling
- Support shipping and receiving activities, including loading/unloading freight and verifying accuracy
- Organize and maintain yard inventory, ensuring materials are stored safely and efficiently
- Move plate and other heavy materials in and out of the facility as required
- Pick and stage parts according to work orders for production and dispatch
- Operate forklifts, overhead cranes, and other material-handling equipment safely and effectively
- Label, secure, and store yard materials in designated areas
- Coordinate with internal departments to ensure timely and accurate material movement

Shipping & Receiving Support
- Assist with documentation and verification of incoming and outgoing freight
- Inspect materials for damage or discrepancies and report issues promptly
- Support organization of shipping lanes and staging areas for outgoing deliveries
- Work collaboratively with logistics and production to meet schedule requirements

Equipment & Tool Maintenance
- Perform daily inspections of forklifts, cranes, and other material-handling equipment prior to use
- Maintain tools and equipment in safe and proper working condition
- Report damaged or unsafe equipment to the supervisor immediately
- Follow lockout/tagout procedures as required

Other Duties
- Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free work area
- Perform other duties as assigned by the General Foreman or management
Your Qualifications
Education:
- High School Diploma or equivalent (required)
- Forklift experience (required)
- Crane and rigging experience or certification (preferred)
Experience:
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in a yard, warehouse, or industrial environment (required)
- Experience operating overhead cranes or heavy material-handling equipment (preferred)
- Prior experience in a manufacturing or fabrication environment (preferred)
Certifications/Licenses:
- Forklift certificate (preferred)
- Overhead crane certificate (preferred)
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Knowledge of safe material handling and inventory management practices
- Proficient in operating forklifts, cranes, rigging, and other material-handling equipment
- Familiarity with shipping documentation and freight handling
- Excellent organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills
- Effective communication and teamwork abilities
- Able to read and follow work orders, shipping documents, and instructions accurately
- Physically fit and able to lift up to 50 lbs; able to work in outdoor environments (heat, cold, rain)
- Safety-conscious, reliable, and detail-oriented
- Positive attitude and willingness to learn and contribute to a team
