The Policy and Data Quality Unit supports the Assessment and Taxation branch with business systems, Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software, data analytics, and business process improvements, all of which have a significant impact on branch operations.
The Data Analyst position is responsible for discovering insights and identifying opportunities through the use of statistical, algorithmic, mining, and visualization techniques. The position also helps enforce ERP system policies, procedures, and standards.
What will you do?
Identify, analyze, and interpret trends or patterns in complex data sets from TACS, POSSE, SLIM, Google Sheets, MS Excel, Open Data, and other sources. The intent is to improve Assessment and Taxation data gathering, processing and forecasting
Stay up to date and research new techniques for showcasing data. Maintain proficiency in existing and updated visualization and business data tools (e.g. WEBI, Tableau, etc.). Must be able to determine from various means (e.g. business experts, prior reports, etc.) what looks reasonable for output
Prepare guidelines and standards for consistency in report creation
Review and determine all data sets in the branch. Make recommendations for data storage types (e.g. Oracle, Excel, Google, POSSE, SAP, etc.), data refresh, and data extraction methods
Participate in the functional configuration, testing/troubleshooting, and maintenance of assigned ERP systems according to operational and business needs
Support future-state planning and development of ERP systems
Study existing business processes, materials, flowcharts, etc. as needed
Review and analyze data, identify process (business or technical) improvements that can be implemented by the branch
Perform other related duties as required
University graduation in Mathematics, Computing Science, Statistics
Minimum of two (2) years’ directly related working experience in data visualization, data analysis, and/or business intelligence is required
Assets:
Experience working with an ERP application
Knowledge of assessment and taxation functions and municipal government
Skills required for success:
Advanced skills in working with business intelligence tools such as SAP Web Intelligence, Tableau, or experience with other data discovery, visualization, and/or infographic technologies
Knowledge and experience using Google Workspace, and some Google Apps scripting
Fundamental knowledge of SQL is required. Experience with other data manipulation technology is an asset
Possess an intellectual curiosity for data and how it can be used to drive insights
Passion for transforming large amounts of data into compelling visual stories and/or reports to facilitate analysis and decision-making
Ability to balance attention to detail with prioritizing work in order to meet deadlines
Demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills, including comfortably presenting to technical and business partners at various levels in the corporation
Experience in various business processes to drive improvements in the branch
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Exceptional analytical and problem solving skills

Salary Range: $42.304 - $52.853(Hourly); $74,529.07 - $93,113.77 (Annually)
