Role Overview
The Freelance Structural Designer is responsible for designing, detailing, and engineering temporary and semi-permanent corrugated displays for the initial CAD stages. They have an excellent technical background and understanding in the material and the processes of building displays that focus on quality, assembly, stability, functionality, production efficiencies and budget.
This position is freelance, but if you are able to work on site, space is available when required to work on prototypes of your design.
A Closer Look at What You’ll Do
Design concepts and specifications for temporary and semi-permanent, corrugate displays based on 3D rendered designs driven by customer deliverable requirements
Specification development and ideation through ArtiosCAD
Review design requests to ensure comprehension and completeness of information provided in order to execute on requested deliverables and achieve the deliverable objectives
Revise designs based on feedback from internal and external teams
Assist Corrugate Prototype Technician with the assembly of prototype sample(s) as required (on site work if the project demands it and you are available to do so)
Verify accuracy and functionality of designs
Manage project files in accordance with Company standard requirements and policies
Deliver projects On-time In-Full
Works collaboratively and professionally with internal teams to execute on client deliverables
Work timely and diligently with internal teams to comprehend and/ or clarify customer or project requirements
Keeps project teams up to date, as necessary, with respect to key project milestones, issues and/ or challenges
Effectively negotiates solutions surrounding project issues/ challenges
Communicates effectively and efficiently with internal teams
Applies strategic and critical thinking to deliverable designs in order to achieve the overall project objectives, while maintaining alignment of customer and company objectives
Identifies and communicates in timely fashion, issues with estimated project times and/ or execution time overages that will impact deliverable deadlines and/ or compromise upcoming project deadlines
Proactively monitors current and upcoming workload so as to invest the appropriate amount of time into deliverable and not compromise upcoming deliverables
What You’ll Need to be Successful:
3 + years of experience in designing and engineering semi-permanent corrugated displays
Postsecondary education in Packaging Design, Industrial Design, Engineering, Architecture, Graphic Design or equivalent experience
Experience using ArtiosCAD specific to the retail design and POP industry preferred
Experience using a cutting table for corrugate and plastic (i.e. Kongsberg)
Advanced experience using Adobe CC (Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat)
Advanced knowledge of corrugate substrates and manufacturing processes
Experience working with Graphic Designers with an expert understanding and knowledge of corrugate printing processes
Ability to manage and organize multiple competing priorities
Strong attention to detail
Strong organizational and time management skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Strong problem identification and problem resolution skills
