The Chronic Disease and Injury Prevention division is seeking a self-directed, persuasive and professional health promoter with experience and skill to plan, promote, develop, implement and evaluate health promotion initiatives, practices and programs for Seniors Oral Health. The Health Promoter will contribute to initiatives that promote equitable access to the Ontario Seniors Dental Care Program for low-income seniors living in Peel.
What you will do in this role:
Plan, support, develop, implement, and evaluate health promotion programs, policies and strategies
Interpret and analyze information to provide recommendations to supervisor or middle management for policy and/or program development
Participate in research projects including team, sectional or divisional projects
Conduct community needs assessments and situational assessments
Prepare detailed documentation, program reports, briefing notes, scoping reviews, and statistical analyses
Develop written and visual communication products such as council reports, briefing notes, social media posts, website pages, and presentations
Develop knowledge translation products for a variety of interest holders (i.e., children/parents, seniors, community partners, and government organizations)
Develop and maintain cooperative and collaborative relationships with internal and external partners
Work to facilitate community mobilization and/or strengthen community capacities to act on and improve health issues
Apply health promotion knowledge and knowledge of public health sciences including population health, social determinants of health, health equity, epidemiology, and applicable legislation
Ensure that dimensions of diversity, equity, and inclusion are reflected in health promotion planning and programs
What the role requires:
University degree in a relevant health-related field
Minimum 1-year related experience in program planning, development, implementation, and evaluation
Background knowledge and understanding of research methods, policy implementation, analysis, and critical appraisal including awareness of evidence-informed decision-making
Knowledge of public health sciences including population health, social determinants of health, epidemiology, and applicable legislation
Knowledge and demonstrated expertise in using key theoretical models of health promotion
Knowledge of technical and professional procedures and standards as outlined in the Ontario Public Health Standards and Guidelines for Oral Health.
Knowledge of publicly funded dental programs offered in Ontario (i.e., Ontario Seniors Dental Care Program, Healthy Smiles Ontario, and the Canadian Dental Care Plan)
Experience with supporting work related to health promotion, oral health would be considered an asset.
Competence in Windows, Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook, and SharePoint
Skills/Abilities:
Strong critical thinking skills and ability to work independently and within a multidisciplinary team
Strong analytical skills to interpret and apply data and/or evidence
Strong understanding of health equity
Strong political acuity
Well-developed and proven written and verbal communication skills
Demonstrated facilitation, writing, communication, partnership/collaboration, project management, planning, problem-solving and organizational skills
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment managing multiple projects

Work Mode & Job Location: at 7120 Hurontario Street, Mississauga
In this role, you’ll benefit from the flexibility of a hybrid work arrangement that prioritizes meaningful in-person connection. A minimum of two days per week on-site is expected, with additional in-person presence as operational needs evolve. This arrangement allows for a blend of in person and hybrid work that adapts to support both organizational priorities and employee flexibility and is subject to change over time.
It's important to note that your off-site work location must be within the province of Ontario. This ensures that we're compliant with all regulations and policies.
