Reporting to the CEO of the Thomson-Gordon Group, the General Manager, MBA will be responsible for the administrative leadership at Marsh Brothers Aviation, a division of the Thomson-Gordon Group. Highly knowledgeable in the areas of aircraft, regulatory requirements, work and material planning, organizing and directing multi-disciplinary cross-functional work activities to support company business objectives throughout the product development, qualification and production life-cycle. Highly motivated in pursuing new product concepts and enhancing critical technical capabilities to drive and expand the business. Duties and Responsibilities
The primary job duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Manage the overall activities within the MBA business area, including engineering, sales and production
Engage with internal and external customers to address complex technical issues, evaluate technically and financially innovative products and technologies to support business profitability and growth
Act as the change agent to drive new products and technologies into the business
Define projects by identifying market needs, defining project mandates and deadlines based on a thorough business case.
Develop relationships and drive the Transport Canada (TC) approval process by developing and maintaining relationships with TC officials in the local and national offices and by understanding the regulatory process to facilitate the fastest path to approvals.
Manage a cross-functional team of Thomson-Gordon Group (TGG) resources and external resources in executing project plans to ensure all work is completed within time, quality and cost schedules
Drive the Transport Canada approvals process by recruiting and managing a team of contract Design Approval Representatives (DAR’s) to obtain STC and RDA approvals for new products
Manage internal and external research and development activities
Present project status updates to the management team and externally to various stakeholders
Lead cross-functional design reviews to ensure seamless and efficient introduction of new products to full-rate manufacturing
In conjunction with the sale manager, coordinate with customers and internally across the organization to resolve customer technical difficulties promptly
Create, develop and recommend changes in staffing, equipment and business processes to enhance the engineering standards
Initiate, develop and implement engineering design and configuration management standards and technical procedures
Prepare and implement departmental training plans consistent with company business objectives
Effectively manage the process to develop, submit and get approval for STC applications (or other approvals) for new MBA products from Transport Canada and the FAA.
In the long term, establish and maintain positive and cooperative working relationships with major landing-gear (and other) OEM’s or with their major customers.
Identify the necessary NPD testing required to proceed with a project and coordinate with New Product Development to get projects implemented and with Engineering to produce drawings.
Direct and generally lead company commercial activities, including searching new markets, customer potential and profitable sales activity and determine the best path to market.
Using creative thinking, determine how our product could represent replacement of existing/original equipment, always to improve performance.
Consider the use of MBA products and materials in the evolving electric aircraft market; with a view of inclusion in airframe and landing gear applications.
Ensure that MBA maintains our Manufacturing and AMO certificates
Maintain our Manufacturing Manual (MM) and Maintenance Policy Manual (MPM)
Support and oversee our program of Internal Audits
Lead contact for our TC PVI, which includes both our Manufacturing and AMO activities
Support sales and marketing activities as required
All other duties as required

Qualifications, Knowledge and Skills
You have at least 8 years of progressive experience in the aeronautical field, holding a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, Materials Engineering or equivalent
You have a good knowledge of design, development, certification and manufacturing processes and requirements used in the aerospace industry
You have working knowledge of the aerospace industry and government quality standards and associated industry requirements
You are a hands-on, walk-around leader with the ability to motivate and empower others while offering focused leadership in ambiguous circumstances
You have excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills with the ability to negotiate and influence, while exercising sensitivity to the audience
You conduct business with impeccable ethics, leading by example and fostering ethical behaviour at all times
You have strong communication skills to present complex technical challenges and solutions to customers and company leaders
You have a good working knowledge of Canadian Aviation regulations (CAR)
Your knowledge and experience with the Canadian Aviation regulatory process to obtain STC’s and RDA’s is an asset.
You have a passion for achieving technological excellence
You have strong critical thinking and logical reasoning skills and the ability to apply them
Offered compensation will be based on individual qualifications. The expected range for this role is $150,000 - $250,000 annually, plus a competitive benefits package.
