Working in a team-based environment, the Financial Management Assistant (Student) will be responsible for managing our utility and property tax accounts, tenant sundry billings and working on various parts of the portfolio forecasts and budgets. The incumbent’s portfolio encompasses all commercial properties located in the Prairie Region and will provide a great opportunity to build a foundation in commercial real estate accounting and finance.
The Prairie Region Accounting & Finance team is comprised of three smaller teams, yet it operates under the “one big team” banner. We are seeking someone with a positive, friendly and collaborative personality who is a hard worker and knows how to have fun at work. You will need to be a highly organized individual as organizational skills are a must have to succeed in this role.
Responsibilities
The Financial Management Assistant will perform a variety of tasks in accordance with GWLRA Policies and Procedures, Client agreements, and prevailing requirements of accounting and industry bodies. Duties include, but are not limited to:
Management of the utility invoice process;
Coding invoices allocated across the portfolio;
Management of the Property Tax Process including:
Preparation of all TIPP (Tax Instalment Payment Plan) journal entries and associated reconciliations
Accounting for property tax refunds
Coordination of ARFI’s (Assessment Request for Information) reports as required;
Preparation of the current year forecast and upcoming year budget assumptions file, including year over year trending;
General invoicing (tenant chargebacks);
Preparation of insurance premium current year forecast and upcoming year budget assumptions file, including year over year trending
WCB clearance database maintenance;
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Currently enrolled as a student, preferably in their second or third year of post-secondary studies
Studies in Accounting or Finance are considered a strong asset
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team-based environment
Proficient in Microsoft Excel and other Office applications
Interest in commercial real estate or financial management is an asset
