Function: Engineering and Engineering Services Job Summary: POSITION SUMMARY: Working under the direction of the Chief Projects Engineer, the Instrument/Electrical Engineer will provide technical support to improve and troubleshoot the plant electrical and electronic systems in the areas of power distribution and control instrumentation. The incumbent will be responsible for developing projects from the point of inception through AFE development to the point of installation. Technical Ability/Problem Solving Suggest recommendations to improve plant performance or maintain operational targets by identifying bad actors. Support equipment obsolescence program by researching and evaluating suitable alternatives. Be responsible for day-to-day technical support for departments (Maintenance, EHS, Procurement etc.), usually helping study improvement opportunities. Evaluate and screen plant improvement ideas by helping customers develop justification and performing EHS risk analysis. Perform economic evaluations. Provide technical support for Plant Engineering and for the maintenance function by participating in equipment design reviews, inspections, quality control and condition monitoring within known areas of expertise. Conduct troubleshooting, revision and installation projects involving process electronic instrumentation including DCS. Support approved projects as an Engineering resource, through the detailed design, construction, and commissioning phases. Support and follow Management of Change program before improvements are implemented. Communication, Co-ordination & Reporting Responsible to work effectively with all parties in the Engineering department. Is expected to maintain open lines of communication with all departments. Develop and maintain strong working relationships with all members of the Production Department, through daily interaction and involvement in plant activities. Develop and maintain contacts: onsite, with Process Engineers at other sites, with other resources within the company, and with key vendors. Building strong relationships is a key expectation of this position Complete daily, weekly, and monthly project management activities including progress tracking, cashflow forecasting, and managing KPIs. Strong written and verbal skills are essential in this position. Self/Staff Development Maintains ongoing familiarization with all procedures, equipment and processes through personal initiative. Identifies areas for self-improvement and works with their supervisor to initiate training in these areas. Stay up to date with latest codes and standards. Productivity & Adaptability Will generally be responsible for the activities associated with several assignments and studies of varying scope and priority. Must manage the activities of each to insure orderly and timely progress occurs on all jobs. Understand and comply with corporate processes and procedures to support internal controls efforts. Identify and brings deficiencies to the attention of department manager. Support the initiatives of Continuous Improvement through teamwork and the application of Quality Planning and Improvement Principles to the routine performance of duties. Can be called on at times to be designated a site contact for outside contractors working on our plant site. Would then be expected to follow all requirements as specified in CF’s Contractor Management Program. The incumbent will be required to travel within North America periodically as required for assigned projects. Will be expected to provide assistance in plant outages and / or turnarounds when requested by the Chief Project Engineer or the Engineering Manager. This may include working in a supervisory role during non‑standard working hour. POSITION QUALIFICATIONS: Certified Engineering Technologist, with 5 - 7 years’ experience within Maintenance or engineering. Industrial Plant setting is an asset. Knowledge of process simulation software would be an advantage in this position but not required. POSITION SCOPE/CONTRIBUTION: The incumbent has direct impact on the profitability of the plants and site. They will be responsible for focus on plant efficiency and I&E reliability . This position requires the incumbent to act as the gatekeeper for all new ideas to improve the plants and are tasked with ensuring the company invests in only the best opportunities.
