Mental Health & Addiction Counsellors (2)
Community Wellness Department
Salary: $37.00 - $42.00 Per Hour (Based on Experience)
The Mental Health & Addiction Counsellor will work with adult clients on a one-to-one client basis for addiction related matters and share responsibility for delivery of treatment programs. They will assist in the development and implementation of treatment programs to clients in treatment and recovery. Will provide support to clients during all stages of recovery from usage, aftercare, detox, and abstinence.
They will also collaborate with an interdisciplinary team in the planning and implementation of a variety of community activities to promote physical, mental, emotional, spiritual wellness, further education for the community on addiction.
Client Support
Ensure services are provided in a professional and timely manner.
Conduct risk and strength assessments of individual clients to determine needs and risks.
Establish wellness/treatments plans, based on identified needs and risk, with implementation, plans of actions, and individual goals for each client.
Engage clients during the development of their wellness/treatment plan.
Develop and implement an appropriate discharge plan.
Identify and introduce promising and/or best practices that contribute to personal and community wellness.
Educate clients on strategies, coping mechanisms that encourage a healthy lifestyle based on physical, mental, emotional and spiritual wellbeing.
Build capacity of people served to deal with personal/interpersonal issues.
Assist clients served to identify, build, and engage personal support networks.
Recognize and refer clients served to other contemporary and/or traditional service providers when needs fall beyond the scope of the program, including but not limited to treatment programs, community wellness programs, other addictions, mental health or psychiatric specialists or programs.
Monitor and evaluate progress and adapt wellness/treatment plan as required.
Administrative/Clerical Support
Establish and maintain a collaborative working relationship with other service providers as required.
Prepare clear, concise, and accurate records, using electronic charting/data systems as assigned by Community Wellness Department.
Plan, facilitate and/or coordinate evidence-based addictions related primary and secondary prevention workshops, programs and/or presentations for children, youth and families, clinical groups, schools and/or the community using appropriate resources and technology (topics to include but not be limited to alcohol, drugs, tobacco and gambling).
Develop, implement and/or coordinate a variety of addictions-related healing and recovery programs for various target groups, including but not limited to culturally based programs and activities; healing and learning circles and/or twelve step programs.
Collaborate on the planning and implementation of a variety of community events to promote personal, family and community wellness.
Participate in case reviews and/or conferences.
Critically analyze, monitor, and evaluate programs and activities.
Provide demographic, health status, statistical, and program information according to policy.
Build and/or strengthen bridges between traditional and mainstream approaches to wellness.
Participate in regular supervision, and staff meetings as directed.
Use academic study, self-directed learning, and other training opportunities to continually develop professional knowledge and skills.
Hold, or be willing to secure, CPR and First Aid Certification.
Member of, or willingness to register with, the Canadian Addiction Counsellors Certification Federation (CACCF).
Valid Class G Ontario driver’s license, with personal vehicle with a $1M liability insurance coverage for on-the-job use.
Must be able to work flexible hours.
Secure and maintain certification in Privacy and Confidentiality.
Must provide a vulnerable sector criminal record check prior to commencing employment.
Is subject to six months' probation.
College or University degree in social work, psychology, or related human services program.
Certificate in Addiction Counselling (ICADC) preferred or willingness to commit to credentialing process.
Certification for Drug and Alcohol Assessment Tools through Centre for Addictions and Mental Health.
Successful completion of a college or university research or evaluation course will be considered a definite asset.
Minimum of three (3) years of addiction-specific clinical experience in a culturally competent practice.
Demonstrated understanding of working with individuals experiencing concurrent disorders
Knowledge and understanding of the complexities of substances, problematic substance uses and recovery-oriented interventions, evidence informed practices and clinical treatment modalities required.
Knowledge of and respect for Anishnawbek history, practices, teachings, language, values, and beliefs is of critical importance.
