POSITION OVERVIEW
Are you an expert Medical Writer with deep knowledge of the Canadian regulatory landscape, ready to elevate your career in healthcare advertising? We're looking for an Associate Director of Medical Writing to join our team. You will play a pivotal role in shaping scientifically robust and strategically impactful campaigns, collaborating closely with cross-functional teams (strategy, creative, and account management) to ensure our communications are accurate, engaging, and compliant for healthcare professionals and patients.
This role is for a passionate individual who can translate complex data into compelling and compliant communications that drive results. You will independently manage the scientific and clinical content for assigned brands, serving as a key medical writing resource for internal teams and clients. Leveraging your expertise, you'll ensure scientific accuracy, regulatory adherence, and strategic relevance throughout the development of campaigns, with minimal reliance on senior guidance. As a member of our Toronto studio, you will join a dynamic, globally-minded team surrounded by some of the brightest minds in their fields and get to work in one of the newest WPP campuses.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Content Development & Scientific Strategy
Lead the development of diverse marketing materials, including: detail aids, leave-behinds, journal ads, dosage cards, clinical reprint binders, disease- and brand-oriented websites, and patient/consumer information tools.
Ensure all content is scientifically accurate, clear, and adheres to Canadian regulatory guidelines (PAAB, ASC, Health Canada).
Effectively address client feedback and align content with campaign objectives.
Confidently manage PAAB feedback, lead clarification and escalation calls, and prepare/lead PAAB consults.
Develop compelling creative rationales to advocate for strategic content decisions.
Conduct comprehensive literature reviews and research to inform content development.
Contribute to medical strategy by identifying key scientific insights and opportunities.
Partner with creative teams to translate scientific narratives into innovative campaigns.
Collaboration & Client Support
Work closely with account teams to support client needs and provide scientific expertise during meetings, and presentations.
Build strong relationships with clients and external experts, helping to establish trust and thought leadership.
Leadership & Mentorship
Guide junior medical writers, providing feedback and mentoring.
Contribute to internal training initiatives on PAAB, therapeutic areas, and medical/scientific trends.
WHAT YOU WILL NEED
University degree preferably in Science: MSc, PhD, PharmD Clinical / Scientific.
5+ years of experience in Canadian healthcare advertising.
Expert level knowledge of Canadian pharmaceutical marketing regulations (PAAB, ASC, Health Canada).
Strong ability to analyze and interpret clinical/scientific data.
Excellent writing, editing, and presentation skills.
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven agency environment.
Strong client-facing skills to build and maintain relationships, understand client. needs, and present medical content strategies.
