Job Description: This position is part of the Association of the Academic Staff of the University of Alberta (AASUA).
In accordance with the , this position has a and an annual salary range of $59,822 - $74,785. This position has an initial appointment of one year.
Location - This role is in-person at North Campus, Edmonton.
Urban Environment Observatory is a laboratory in the Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences engaged in multiple projects funded by Canadian tri-council research agencies, ranging from bio-products, Indigenous and human rights issues, housing and climate change.
The position is responsible for planning for the day-to-day operations of research project(s) or program(s), funded by multiple Canadian tri-councils, with a focus on the impacts and awareness of bioproducts in the population and plastic pollution and water quality.
Responsibilities: - Setting research program objectives, including planning of future research
- Planning research activities and providing research design for a project and/or program.
- Determining the most appropriate methodology in carrying out identified research goals.
- Designing experiments, data collection protocols, and standards.
- Conducting advanced analysis of research results.
- Overseeing and/or conducting data collection activities.
- Preparing proposals for new research activities, including assisting in the preparation of research grant applications and contract proposals.
- Participating in the writing of research papers, the preparation of presentations and publications.
- Guiding and coaching students and/or post-doctoral fellows.
- Assisting with related administrative duties.
Qualifications: - PhD in social or natural sciences with a preferred focus on water quality and monitoring.
The applicant's experience and skills should include:
- 4/5 years of postdoctoral experience
- A demonstrated track record in research grant management;
- A demonstrated track record in grant securement and publications;
- Excellent working knowledge of research methodology, including statistical modelling, remote sensing algorithms, Python, R, machine learning, and programming skills;
- Excellent communication (oral and written), interpersonal, organizational, and time management skills; and,
- Excellent leadership within a team environment.
