What we offer
Join a forward-thinking team redefining the future of prefabricated cabinetry
and millwork. As a CAD Designer, you will play a key role in developing precise
detailed design plans and 3D models for SAMI’s innovative prefabricated
products. This role is ideal for someone with experience in designing for
high-tech, automated manufacturing environments and a passion for translating
concepts and designs into manufacturable solutions. Working from pre-existing
floor plans, blueprints, and AutoCAD illustrations, you will create detailed
visualizations and 3D models, and advise on materials, colours, finishes, and
lighting and ergonomic considerations. This is a unique opportunity to
contribute to innovative housing solutions while advancing your skills in space
optimization, user-centered design, and high-quality production standards.
What you’ll do
- Collaborate on the design and development of cabinetry layouts based on
existing floorplans and organizational needs. Produce design concepts,
mock-ups, and final designs that align with functional and aesthetic goals.
- Utilize and enhance our cabinet design software to maintain and expand the
catalogue of cabinetry offerings, ensuring alignment with evolving project
needs and design standards.
- Create detailed technical drawings and 3D models illustrating the arrangement
of walls, dividers, displays, elevations and cross-sections. Manage the
construction library data and ensure accuracy and consistency across design
assets.
- Interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and AutoCAD illustrations. Engage with
internal and external subject matter experts to understand the organizational
requirements and ensure they can be translated into manufacturable design
solutions.
- Provide expertise on materials, colours, finishes, lighting, and other design
elements, considering ergonomic principles and occupational health standards.
- Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and product
innovations. Contribute to ongoing improvements in design quality and process
efficiency.
- Ensure all designs meet the highest standards of manufacturability, quality,
and compliance while delivered within specified timelines and budgets.
- Strategically optimize space utilization, material costs, and modularity to
support scalable and cost-effective design solutions.
- Other duties as required.
What you bring
- Bachelor of Interior Design, Bachelor of Craft and Design, Bachelor of
Furniture Design, or relevant industry experience.
- 3-5 years of hands-on experience in CAD design.
- Ability to read blueprints, shop drawings, technical specifications, and
translate them into actionable cabinetry design parameters.
- Experience supporting the full-cycle furniture design process – from concept
development to production-ready outputs.
- Strong understanding of cabinetry and woodworking manufacturing processes,
including materials, finishes, hardware, and construction techniques.
- Awareness of residential construction practices and how they intersect with
cabinetry and furniture design.
- Strong knowledge of furniture manufacturing (materials, finishes, hardware,
etc.)
- Thorough furniture construction and processing understanding
- Demonstrates integrity, ethical conduct, and a commitment to high-quality
work.
- Exceptional collaboration, communication, and relationship-building abilities
across cross-functional teams.
Bonus Points
- Experience in roboticized manufacturing environment.
- Demonstrated proficiency in relevant software (e.g. CNC programming, 3D
modelling, autoCAD, Mozaik, Sketchup, 20/20 or similar).
- Experience with HOMAG iX software is an asset.
- Familiarity with applicable legislative standards such as building codes and
occupational health regulations.
