The Opportunity We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Process Safety Engineer to join our team. The Process Safety Engineer will facilitate process hazard analyses (e.g., HAZOP, LOPA, Bowtie), track and manage process safety-related actions, and provide guidance on the development and implementation of process safety standards—including Management of Change, Pre-Startup Safety Review, Safety System Impairment, and Car Seal Management. They will also support regulatory submissions, monitor process safety performance indicators, and contribute to root cause analyses (RCAs). What you'll do Provide technical support for operations, field safety and engineering regarding process safety and risk management matters in their assigned region and/or line of business Engage with frontline operations to identify and understand potential process safety concerns and prioritize them for further evaluation. Maintain and oversee standardized enterprise process safety procedures, including safety system bypass, management of change, and pre-startup safety review. Assist with the implementation of new or updated enterprise process safety programs within assigned regions by providing training, interpretation, technical support, and advice. Support regional projects and MOCs via PHA facilitation, design reviews, stage gate reviews, and PSSR support. Review incidents and near-hits, to support the classification process safety events. Drive actions to prevent re-occurrence and share learnings from across the business unit and organization. Monitor regional process safety performance by providing support for assurance activities against key process safety programs and requirements. Identify gaps and provide insights from process safety assessments. Support investigation team with respect to process safety events. Track and maintain regional corrective actions stemming from facility PHAs, incident investigations and assurance activities. Support the closure of identified gaps as required. Support regulatory event submissions and information requests. Minimum Qualifications Degree in Engineering (or engineering technology) 6+ years of Pipelines, oil & gas or petrochemical experience Registered, or eligible to register, as a Professional Engineer (P. Eng) with APEGA in good standing Proven ability to read & interpret P&ID’s, pressure equipment data sheets, and other integrity related documents. Understanding and experiences with risk scenario development techniques, including assignment of probabilities and consequences Working knowledge of industry codes, standards and practices relevant to process design and safety (e.g. CSA, ASME, API, NFPA, ANSI, etc.) and Recognized and Generally Accepted Good Engineering Practices (RAGAGEP) Preferred Qualifications Experience in design, commissioning, start-up and operation of oil & gas, or chemical facilities. Proficient with PHA PRO, PHAST, SAP and Enablon Experienced in facilitating Process Hazard Analysis using a variety of methodologies (e.g. Hazard Identification (HAZID), PHAs (What-if, HAZOP, LOPA, Bowtie analyses). Understanding of asset life cycle management, system reliability and operations. Experience with MOC processes and evaluating change.
