ob Title: Infectious Disease Physician Location: Boston Medical Center – South, Brockton, Massachusetts Position Type: Full-time Overview: Boston Medical Center – South seeks a dedicated and experienced Infectious Disease Physician to join our multidisciplinary team. The physician will provide expert clinical care in diagnosing, managing, and preventing infectious diseases across inpatient and outpatient settings. This role will also involve collaboration with hospital leadership, support for antimicrobial stewardship, education of staff, and possibly involvement in research or quality improvement. Key Responsibilities: Provide consultation services for inpatients with bacterial, viral, fungal, and parasitic infections. Manage outpatient infectious disease clinics (e.g., HIV care, STDs, tuberculosis, travel medicine, long-term antibiotic therapy) per hospital/community needs. Participate in antimicrobial stewardship: review antibiotic prescribing, contribute to protocols/guidelines to optimize use. Evaluate and manage patients who are immunocompromised (e.g. transplant, chemotherapy) including prophylaxis. Lead or collaborate in infection prevention initiatives (hospital epidemiology, outbreak response). Serve as a resource for other medical teams for infectious disease advice. Engage in teaching and mentoring of residents, fellows (if present), medical students, and other clinical staff. Participate in hospital committees as needed (infection control, quality, pharmacy & therapeutics). Participate in quality improvement, performance measurement, and possibly clinical research projects. Document patient care thoroughly; follow hospital policies, regulatory, and compliance requirements. Qualifications: Required: MD or DO degree, or equivalent. Board Certified or Board Eligible in Infectious Disease. Valid Massachusetts medical license (or ability to obtain). Demonstrated experience diagnosing and managing complex infectious disease cases in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Strong clinical decision making, communication, and collaboration skills with multidisciplinary teams. Preferred: Experience in antimicrobial stewardship programs. Experience managing HIV/AIDS patients and/or STDs. Experience with TB management and travel/tropical medicine. Experience in an academic or teaching environment. Research experience or interest. Leadership skills; ability to work on hospital/department committees. Skills and Competencies: Excellent diagnostic and problem-solving ability. Strong interpersonal skills; cultural competence; ability to work with diverse patient populations. Ability to work efficiently in fast-paced clinical settings. Commitment to patient-centered care and health equity. Ability to lead change, contribute to protocols, and collaborate across departments. Good documentation and electronic medical record (EMR) skills. Working Conditions: Work in both inpatient and outpatient hospital settings. On-call/consult coverage, possibly nights or weekends depending on schedule. Collaboration with nursing, pharmacy, lab, infection control, and other hospital services.
