Hours: Monday – Friday, 35 hours/week
Home Campus: IAHS (on campus 4 days/week, and approx. 2 days a month at other campuses)
Rate of Pay: Payband G (Start Rate: $33.55 per hour, plus 8% in lieu of vacation and benefits)

The Programs & Services Officer, Student Life & Learning Support Centre, plays a pivotal role in fostering student engagement and academic success through the coordination and delivery of academic support programs and services.
This position encompasses responsibilities within both Student Life and the Learning Support Centre, supporting various activities and events while coaching student staff at the Institute for Applied Health Science campus. The incumbent will demonstrate strong intercultural competencies as well as a commitment to offering inclusive, welcoming events and programs in support of the College’s equity, diversity and inclusion values. This includes compliance with Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) guidelines.
Reporting to the Director, Student Success & Engagement, the incumbent will work closely with members of both teams, in addition to departments within Student Success & Engagement (Advising & Retention, Student & Graduate Employment), and other departments across the College (Health & Wellness, Accessible Learning Services, Testing Centre, Athletics & Recreation, etc.). The incumbent has a variety of operational, administrative and reporting responsibilities in support of student development and success.
What you’ll be doing:
General Program Administration, Data Tracking, and Reporting
Coordinates daily operations of departmental services, including planning and executing small events, responding to inquiries, and managing promotional efforts.
Liaises with service areas to ensure effective service delivery and facilitate professional development opportunities for student leaders.
Connects with IAHS faculty to ensure services align with students’ needs in the academic areas (e.g. courses where tutoring needs to be enhanced or created).
Updates program content regularly to reflect current student and staff/faculty needs.
Organizes and develops program operational documents and procedures.
Coordinates data capture processes and prepare reports on service use metrics and outcomes.
Supports the evaluation of tutoring services at the IAHS campus.
Supports Student Life’s programming at the IAHS campus, including Orientation, Leadership programming, First Year Experience, Campus to Community, Co-Curricular Record.
Provides feedback and reporting regarding events and programming.
Recruitment and Selection
Working with the Student Life and Learning Support Centre teams, plans and coordinates recruitment campaigns for peer leaders, student staff, co-op students, and volunteers.
Assists in interviewing and hiring student staff each semester.
Works with the Learning Support Centre Manager to determine program specific needs, develop tutoring services and workshops, recruitment of student leaders to operationalize tutoring services and workshops.
Design, Delivery, and Coordination of Student Staff/Peer Leaders
Assists in coordinating and facilitating training for student staff in collaboration with student service partners.
Coordinates work schedules of student staff to ensure adequate service provision.
Provides ongoing functional guidance to student leaders, peer tutors, CSEP students, and Co-op students.
Coordinates schedule of departmental program delivery at IAHS campus.
Marketing and Promotion
Develops promotional materials for programs and services, collaborating with Student Life and Learning Support Centre teams.
Reviews and updates content for Mohawk College webpages.
Supports marketing efforts for student training events by other departments.
Event Planning
Coordinates the development, promotion, and delivery of student workshops/events in collaboration with Student Life and the Learning Support Centre.
Recommends new event and student learning support programming ideas based on best practices and innovation.
Other duties as assigned.
What you’ll bring to the role:
Minimum three-year post-secondary education in Business, Adult Education, Human Services, Event Management, Recreation, or similar program; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Minimum 2 years of practical experience administering peer-to-peer student leadership programs in a post-secondary educational setting, dealing with an intercultural, diverse population.
Driver’s license.
Demonstrated commitment and understanding of human rights, equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility.
The ability to communicate and work effectively with diverse students, employees, and communities.
The successful candidate will also be able to demonstrate the following knowledge, skills and attitudes obtained through their previous work experience:
Student & Adult Learning and Development: a demonstrated working knowledge of student development and adult learning theories, approaches and best practices.
Peer-to-Peer & Student Leadership Administration: a demonstrated working knowledge of student leadership administration theories, approaches and best practices.
Event Planning/Project Management: demonstrated experience coordinating workshops, events and managing projects.
Diversity: Demonstrated experience working with and supporting a diverse student/client population.
Approachable and relatable to all members of college community: Ability to positively relate to students, faculty, staff, administration and the general public in a variety of situations (one-to-one and groups) is essential.
Computer Proficiency/Experience: Proficiency in and experience with business computer applications including MSOffice (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) plus internet researching skills is necessary. Ability to learn and adapt to new software applications is important.
Knowledge of Post-Secondary Education Systems: knowledge of College programs, Student Policies, Student Support Services, Student Success Initiatives, and corporate databases including SCT Banner system or similar student information management systems would be an asset.
Strong Organization and Multi-Tasking Skills: ability to manage multiple student tasks, projects and issues at the same time. Knowledge or experience with project management would be an asset.
Team-Oriented: Demonstrated intrapersonal skills and an ability to work effectively in a team environment is essential.
Language and Communication Proficiency: Strong communication and writing skills.
