Job Description
The Import Trade Manager will be responsible to drive the P&L/growth of a given geographic location of the world from Canada. The candidate must understand and continue to learn the various commodity dynamics, customer segmentation, and all trade related numbers such as market statistics. With this knowledge they are to create and apply the needed strategies and communicate them to the required stakeholders in order to obtain the objectives. He/she will be accountable for the need relationships, from our principles, local colleagues and all partners in the Canadian supply chain. The trade manager will be required to promote their respective trade, through trade meetings, industry events and simple partner meetings and is expected at all time to represent the organization in poised and professional manner.
Level of Responsibility
Leading projects/workstreams, and responsible for outcomes/strategic impact on department or business unit performance. May have direct reports, mentoring others, driving innovation, and improving processes within their domain.
Key Tasks
Responsible for driving the growth and profitability (P&L) of the trade they oversee.
Develop and implement strategies, projects, and initiatives that support long-term trade objectives.
Analyze market dynamics and customer segmentation to produce accurate short and long-term forecasts using internal systems.
Maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders and global partners through clear and consistent communication across all channels.
Represent MSC Canada professionally at trade meetings, industry events, and partner engagements.
Collaborate with MSC principals in GVA, Canadian supply chain partners, and internal teams to align trade execution with strategic goals.
Monitor trade performance and adapt strategies to meet evolving market conditions and business targets.
Qualifications
Minimum 5 years of Trade Management experience, or similar/related experience within the transportation or shipping industry.
Bachelor’s degree, in Business, Economics or other related discipline.
Highly organized, decisive, and adaptable in a dynamic, fast-changing market environment.
Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills, with the ability to approach challenges from abstract and commercial perspectives.
Well-developed negotiation and interpersonal skills; capable of leading cross-functional collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
Demonstrated experience managing significant commercial revenue and trade scope.
Advanced proficiency in Excel and strong command of Microsoft Office Suite.
Some travel may be required for client and partner engagement.
