Position Summary
Bow Valley College’s School of Technology is seeking a passionate and innovative Instructor, Digital Design to join our creative academic team. This role is ideal for an individual who thrives on inspiring learners, fostering inclusive engagement, and shaping the next generation of digital creators. The Instructor applies strong teaching and learning expertise to deliver engaging instruction, develop effective curriculum, and promote excellence in student learning across the Digital Design programs. This role may teach within the either the regular or apprenticeship style diploma, or the post-diploma certificate programs.
Reporting to the Program Chair, the Instructor works collaboratively with faculty, students, and industry partners to deliver high-quality courses and develop innovative approaches to teaching. The successful candidate will guide the design and continuous improvement of curriculum, courses, and instructional methods to meet the evolving needs of learners and the digital media industry. They will foster an inclusive, positive learning environment where students are encouraged to actively engage, think critically, and develop practical skills relevant to real-world creative industries.
Key responsibilities include instructing assigned courses, developing lesson plans and assessments, and contributing to program and curriculum design in collaboration with colleagues. The Instructor will stay current with industry trends and technologies, ensuring that learning outcomes align with professional standards and emerging practices. Additionally, the role involves maintaining accurate academic records, supporting student success initiatives, and participating in departmental and college events such as orientations, open houses, and graduation ceremonies.
The Instructor also plays a key role in building and maintaining relationships with internal and external stakeholders. This includes collaborating with industry partners, participating in advisory committees, and helping to develop community partnerships that support student placements and employment opportunities. Engagement in professional development, applied research, and continuous instructional improvement is also encouraged.
Minimum Qualifications:
Post-secondary Diploma in a related field (Digital Design).
A minimum of two years of industry experience
Demonstrable familiarity and experience in digital design or a closely related discipline.
Strong communication, organizational, time management, and interpersonal skills.
Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
Experience leading workshops, lectures, or seminars.
A combination of directly related education and experience may be considered.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant field.
Five or more years of relevant industry experience.
Previous teaching experience at the post-secondary level.
Ability to work effectively with learners of diverse backgrounds and skill levels.
Strong presentation and facilitation skills, with a learner-centered approach.
Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
