The Role
We are seeking an experienced Mechanical and Structural Drafter to join our team full-time, working 5 days a week, based out of our Fort Saskatchewan office. You will prepare comprehensive mechanical drawing packages—including shop spool drawings, isometrics, BOMs, assembly drawings, and layouts—while translating field measurements into precise technical documentation. Collaboration with both construction and engineering teams is essential, as is adherence to client specifications and standards.
This role assumes approximately 75% Shop Drafting and 25% Project Coordination responsibilities.

Duties/Responsibilities
Draft structural components using 2D AutoCAD and Tekla Ultimate.
Utilize Spool Fab to create mechanical drawing packages, including shop spool drawings, isometrics, BOMs, assembly drawings, and layouts.
Translate field measurements into accurate technical drawings.
Prepare piping isometrics and shop drawings for ABSA-registered pressure piping and CWB-certified structural steel.
Convert IFC (Issued for Construction) drawings into detailed fabrication drawings, including BOMs, weld maps, spool drawings, and assembly details.
Maintain drawing standards, layer management, and revision control in compliance with ABSA and CWB requirements.
Support shop floor queries, including RFIs, clarifications, and field markups.
Interface with project managers, QA/QC, and fabrication foremen to align deliverables and prioritize schedules.
Track drawing progress, ensure timely transmittals, and coordinate drawing approvals with clients or engineering firms.
Manage document control, including revision logs, ABSA registration documents, and weld procedure references.
Support material takeoffs and nesting files to optimize plate and pipe usage.
Assist with quantity takeoffs and estimating as required.
Collaborate closely with the construction and engineering teams on drafting requirements.
Understand and apply a variety of client specifications and standards.
Skills/Education/Requirements
Minimum 5 years’ experience with 2D AutoCAD and Spool Fab
Ability to configure AutoCAD to meet diverse client standards
Proficient in using various measurement tools
Proficient in Google platforms, bluebeam and professional writing
Able to work both independently and as part of a team
Graduate of Mechanical Engineering program or Construction Technology program with related work experience OR
Qualified tradesperson in mechanical field with several years' experience, and previous estimating / drafting experience
Strong computer skills, including experience with Google Suite
Ability to communicate clearly and collaborate effectively with team members is important
Must have reliable transportation to and from work in Fort Saskatchewan
Must be eligible to work in Canada
Assets/Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of CWB welded joints and symbols
Knowledge of NDE, line classifications and symbols
Ability to update electrical redline drawings
Fab shop experience considered an asset
Welding process experience considered an asset
