Saint John Energy is inviting applications for the role of Distribution Engineer until 2:00pm on Wednesday, November 5, 2025.
Responsibilities:
Lead and support the design, development, and implementation of distribution electrical projects, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.
Conduct comprehensive electrical system analysis, including load flow, short circuit, and protective device coordination studies, to optimize system performance and reliability.
Collaborate with vendors and stakeholders to identify and evaluate emerging technologies, proposing innovative solutions to enhance efficiency and system resilience.
Support the team with solving complex technical problems related to equipment performance, system reliability, and power quality.
Leverage understanding and expertise in transmission, generation, SCADA and renewable energy technologies to ensure seamless integration within the distribution network.
Experience with industry trends, best practices, regulations, and emerging technologies to propose innovative solutions.
Collaborate with operations, asset management, technology, and regulatory teams to align engineering efforts with organizational objectives.
Mentor and coach team members, fostering growth, knowledge sharing, and collaboration.
Lead business case studies to assess financial impacts of project options.
Contribute to business development initiatives and projects.
Act as the technical lead in safety investigations.
Ensure critical asset stock levels are adequate to support capital projects.
Lead SCADA and communication projects.
Supports NERC Standard Reliability Compliance.
Work with purchasing department in development of RFP and tender documents.
Support contract negotiations.
Responsible for developing and maintaining engineering best practices.
Provide training to staff related to technical subject matter.
Complete tasks in compliance with NBOHS Act and Regulations.
Working Conditions:
40 Hours per week (8:00am – 5:00 pm)
Inside office and outside environment.
Sitting and standing for moderate periods.
Exposure to construction sites
Ability to physically implement distribution system designs.
Employment Requirements:
University bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.
Professional Engineer license is required.
Minimum of 10 years’ experience.
Must possess valid driver’s licence
Proficiency in distribution system planning, analysis, and system software (e.g., CYME).
Experience using PLS-CADD, SPIDAcalc or similar pole load and line design software.
Experience in designing or implementing SCADA or communication systems.
Familiarity with NERC standards.
Solid understanding of industry standards, regulations, and best practices.
Proven track record of successful project management.
Exceptional problem-solving skills.
Demonstrate strong leadership.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to collaborate effectively across diverse teams.
Supplemental courses in applied engineering, project management, finance, are an asset.
Possess a high level of business decorum and confidentiality.
Self-motivated, possess initiative, and able to work with minimal supervision.
Proficiency in Microsoft, Office, PowerPoint, and Excel.
