This position is required to work in the Camrose branch office.
However, periodically may be asked to work in other AFSC branches. Travel in these circumstances will be reimbursed according to AFSC’s Employee and Board of Directors Expense Policy.
Summary: The Legal Assistant I plays a key role in supporting AFSC’s Legal team by ensuring the accuracy and compliance of loan security documentation and related legal processes. This role helps maintain AFSC’s legal and procedural integrity by checking, maintaining, and processing loan security documentation in accordance with AFSC’s policies and accepted legal practice, while providing general support to the Legal Department.

You’ll gain exposure to AFSC’s Loan Compliance and Legal teams, as well as broader interactions with Relationship Managers Lending (RMLs) and other departments across the organization. You’ll develop foundational skills in legal documentation, registry systems, and lending security requirements, preparing you for advancement into more senior Legal Assistant or Compliance roles. AFSC encourages continuous learning and career growth through internal development and mentorship.
What will you be responsible for?
Supporting Legal Assistants in the completion of the Revolving Loan Program renewals.
Processing paid-out loans, including the discharge of security and providing guidance to RMLs.
Distributing incoming loan security and supporting documentation and validating details where applicable.
Producing accurate reports by collecting and organizing data from a variety of standard sources.
Performing data entry tasks, including scanning, verifying, and validating documents.
Providing back-up support for Legal Support as required.

College Diploma or additional related work experience as deemed equivalent.
Ability to operate with a strong sense of responsibility and accuracy, adhering to AFSC policies and procedures.
Strong communication skills, with the ability to tailor messages to different audiences.
Demonstrated integrity and commitment to maintaining confidentiality and trust.
Proficiency with digital and technology applications; comfortable adopting new systems.
Proven ability to collaborate and build partnerships across teams to achieve shared objectives.
Strong planning and prioritization skills, aligning work with organizational goals.

Qualifications (Optional)
Valid driver’s license (as applicable to the role).
Additional paralegal or legal administration training would be considered an asset.
Familiarity with Land Titles Registry, Personal Property Registry, Corporate Registry, Bank of Canada, MOVES, Envoy, ERMA, AFSC Connect, SAP, and Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, Teams).
