The Planning Specialist (PS) is accountable for the forward progress of Highway Ops initiatives focused on training and process improvement. The PS will also work closely with the other Operations Supervisory and Management Team regarding the established goals/programs and will continually assess established processes by recognizing current and potential issues and needs, as well as competitive advantages and disadvantages. The PS will also act as a point of resource to offer support to the entire Highway Ops team in matters of performance and follow up. Specific Responsibilities include: 1) Leadership and Planning Support: The goal of the Planning Specialist (PS) is to support the region in all areas of operations. This all-encompassing statement involves day to day support in decision making, volume management, asset management, coaching, mentoring, process management and efficiency identification. The PS, along with the Manger, are expected to guide the department to make better decisions that are in the company’s best interest. Being knowledgeable and confident in all roles in the department will allow the PS to provide planning coverage support for holidays and illness as they occur. Using existing and developing KPI’s to help support, measure and manage the success of the department. Supporting, training and developing processes for improvement Customer relationships. Being the "go to" person on the floor when a solution is required. 2) Trailer Management: The PS is responsible in ensuring we are aware and acting on the needs of the business; moving trailers into locations for loading and identifying potential shortfalls ahead of time. Daily Trailer pool review, Daily reefer trailer balance forecast and action plan, Trailer inactivity and resolution. 3) Reporting: The PS will be tasked with various reporting to leadership and peers on the status of various KPI’s Daily CPE reporting, LOS reconciliation and reporting, Dispatch scorecard, Other reports as required. 4) Problem Resolution: The PS plays a key role in helping resolve planning, dispatch or customer issues as they arise. Being a sounding board for others, providing alternate solutions and insight while keeping our goal of efficiency, cost control and driver satisfaction in mind. The PS is also expected to encourage and develop new ways to manage processes, problems and ideas using tools taught in the Lean course to drive Continuous improvement. 5) Regional Efficiency: The PS is expected to play a key role in the development and implementation of processes, ideas and behaviors that will drive efficiency The PS will be encouraged to continue further Lean training to build the foundation for Continuous Improvement. 6) Customer Relations: The PS will have a large role in Customer Relations. Building on existing relationships within the company, the PS will work to manage issues as they arise, answer inquiries and take the lead to ensure our Customers experience the best from Bison. The PS will also be a key contact for internal customers, providing a single point of contact for the Central Region for items such as delay notification, balance managing and rate requests. 6) Other Tasks: Load tracing, Driver coaching as needed, Balance Management, Customer communication, 4DX leadership. Our Ideal Candidate will possess: +2 years previous transportation or logistics experience is required. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Proven analytical and critical thinking skills. Excellent problem-solving abilities. Demonstrated skills in aligning goals with strategic direction to achieve targeted business results. Proven team player with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams and to develop and maintain collaborative working relationship. Strong knowledge of company goals, work direction and practices. Shift: 08:00 - 17:00. Tuesday - Saturday or Sunday - Thursday (TBD). Candidates must demonstrate flexibility to accommodate business needs, including transitioning to a 12-hour shift when operational coverage is required. This job is classified under NOC Code: 14405.
