About the Role:
Global News is hiring a News Camera/Editor based in Ottawa.
This is a permanent, full-time position responsible for shooting and editing video and stories for Global National, the network’s award-winning flagship news program.
The successful candidate will be an experienced broadcast professional who thrives under tight deadlines and consistently delivers high-quality visual storytelling.
Reporting to the Bureau Manager, you will be part of the Global News Parliamentary Bureau team, which produces Global National, The West Block, and video content for GlobalNews.ca.
This position is classified as Group 3 under the current Collective Agreement.
You will contribute by:
Skillful operation of an ENG camera to fulfill daily newsgathering needs.
Editing videos and stories using non-linear software both in the newsroom and in the field
Shooting, lighting, and transmitting live hits.
Ingesting video to network servers for use across all Global News platforms and stations
Maintaining a high degree of personal organization and communications responsiveness
Pitching creative and dynamic stand-up ideas for correspondents in the field
Utilizing complementary cameras (such as DSLRs, GoPro’s, etc.) to maximize visual impact of reporting
Travelling to the heart of the story wherever it is unfolding.
Sourcing and verifying user-generated video.
Capturing and uploading photos and video to support multi-platform coverage
Effectively communicating with network editorial and technical teams.
Fostering an environment of collaboration, creativity, positive discussion, and constructive feedback
Skills and experience you will bring:
Post-secondary education in journalism, broadcasting, or a related field.
Minimum of two years of experience with non-linear editing, ENG Camera, field lighting and working on a high-performance news team
Proven track record of exemplary visual storytelling, production skills, and editorial judgment
Familiarity with Edius / Grass Valley software tools
Demonstrated ability with transmission resources such as Dejero and Starlink
Strong and proven leadership skills
Decisive under pressure; able to prioritize and meet multiple daily deadlines.
Excellent communication, organizational and multi-tasking abilities
