Seaspan’s Innovation Team is seeking a self-starting and entrepreneurial immersive 3D Environments Developer to lead and advance Seaspan’s use of 3D environments for Augmented, Mixed, and Virtual Reality (AR/MR/VR) systems within shipbuilding and refit. This role focuses on identifying, applying, and expanding the use of interactive and immersive visualization systems to improve collaborative engineering reviews, resolve spatial integration challenges, enhance design validation, and support production planning and operations.
Note: This position qualifies for an optional hybrid work schedule after 90 days of onsite work and onboarding. Employee will be subject to the terms of the Flexible Work Policy Agreement.
What you’ll do:
Scout, evaluate, and promote adoption of emerging 3D visualization technologies to modernize engineering, production, service, and operational workflows driving innovation and expanding the use of interactive visualization tools across Seaspan.
Develop, demonstrate and support interactive content and environments using real-time 3D development platforms, focusing on enhancing user experience and supporting practical use cases.
Expand, manage, and promote existing 3D Visualization tools and platforms, identifying new use cases and opportunities to optimize workflows and increase adoption across the organization.
Engage and collaborate with shipyard and engineering stakeholders to identify pain points and define use cases building awareness, engagement, and buy-in for visualization solutions.
Provide technical direction to team members, growing technical expertise and fostering a collaborative innovation mindset.
Support pilot studies and technology evaluations, contributing to roadmap development and strategic planning.
Curate and expand Seaspan’s catalogue of intuitive 3D interactions, animations, and interfaces as well as visual assets that demonstrate capabilities and support stakeholder engagement.
Maintain and extend existing codebases, adding new features and ensuring performance, functionality, and quality through testing and validation.
Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues, ensuring smooth operation and reliability of immersive visualization tools.
What you’ll bring:
6+ years of proven experience with interactive content creation, and 3D visualization environments including AR/MR/VR platforms and ideally digital media content creation, CAD and mesh-based modeling systems.
Undergraduate or graduate degree in Applied Science or Engineering in 3D visualization or related discipline.
Software and scripting, including development, debugging, technical investigations, testing, and maintaining codebases, ideally in Python, C#, and Unity.
Strong understanding of UX and XR design principles, with the ability to create intuitive, user-centered interactions and interfaces.
Strategic, entrepreneurial and business mindset, collaborative spirit, and passion for applying emerging technologies to real-world challenges to deliver organizational goals and outcomes.
Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary, fast-paced environment; experience in industrial or marine environments would be an asset.

The estimated salary for this position is $105,300 - $128,700 In determining final salary, Seaspan considers many factors including the successful Candidate’s skillset and experience as well as position location and internal equity. The final base salary offer will be at the Company’s sole discretion and presented as part of a competitive total compensation package.
