We are looking for a passionate Early Childhood Educator to join our team. The role involves supporting the growth and development of young children in a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment. The successful candidate will maintain and enhance their knowledge of early childhood education, implement child-centered and culturally sensitive programs in alignment with CLLR and the BC Early Learning Framework (BCELFW), and work collaboratively with families and colleagues to support newcomer children. POSITION FUNCTION:
Understanding and following all MOSAIC, and Childcare Facility Licensing Regulation (CCFLR)
Be familiar with MOSAIC’s vision, mission, values, strategic plan, and integrated client service delivery approach, program and/or project proposals and contracts, and your role in achieving the goals and contractual outcomes of the department
Model the Early Childhood Educators of BC (ECEBC) goals of best practice in an early childhood program and commit to ECEBC Code of Ethics
Unless law requires disclosure, maintain confidentiality of all information related to the program, the children, their families, and staff
Plan and implement developmentally and culturally appropriate activities for children’s programs that are child-centered and conform to MOSAIC childcare policy and procedure
Include experiences in programming that reflect a variety of cultures and value systems, and encourage children to practice self-help techniques
Follow established daily schedule that incorporates child-directed activities, care routines, transition times, and a balance of active/quiet, individual/group, and inside/outside activities
Develop a variety of visual and hands-on materials and teaching techniques that include modeling, observing, questioning, demonstrating, and reinforcing
Organize and regularly evaluate the childcare space and all equipment and materials
Maintain the children’s developmental records and observation forms
Give language appropriate orientation to new families
Make resource information available to the parents/caregivers, and inform the manager or coordinator of any concerns that may need follow-up or referral
Maintain and add to knowledge of early childhood education and advocacy
QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge
Programming and childcare issues; including BC CCLR, the needs and interests of children from diverse communities who face barriers as newcomers, and specific knowledge related to the function or the focus of the program.
Education/Certifications
High school completion, Early Childhood Education Diploma/Certificate, and up-to-date BC license to practice.
First Aid Certificate, Food Safe 1, WHMIS Certifications, BC Vaccination Record
Experience with BC Childcare practices, awareness of and work within the ECEBC Code of Ethics
Infant and Toddler or special need license to practice is a requirement
Valid and satisfactory vulnerable sector criminal record check required
Sign Language Certificate is an asset
Experience
More than five years of experience in evaluating and developing curriculum materials, providing activities, and facilitating play-based activities for children and their parents/caregivers; work with an immigrant population and/or diverse cultural backgrounds, and/or comparable education or other program, or project specialties.
COMPENSATION: $26.63 - $27.19 per hour
HOURS: 35 hours per week (LINC classes scheduled Monday - Friday)
The successful candidate must be able to commute to the Vancouver childcare location at 2710 Commercial Dr. Vancouver.
BENEFITS: A competitive benefits package is provided with contracts of at least 1 year in length and which offer a minimum of 17.5 hours of work per week.
