The Faculty of Health Sciences invites applications, from qualified individuals, for a 1-year Limited term Academic Associate position in the field of Nursing in our Collaborative Undergraduate Nursing Programs. This position is subject to budgetary approval and would start on January 1, 2026.
The Faculty of Health Sciences offers a 4-year collaborative BScN program and a 3-year Advanced Entry RPN to BScN Program [with Durham College]. This is in addition to undergraduate honours degrees across a number of other health programs [BAHSc; BSc; BHA; medical laboratory sciences, kinesiology] as well as MSc and PhD programs and a MScN program]. Responsibilities/Accountabilities:
Ontario Tech is a technology-enhanced learning environment, and the candidate shall be expected to have skills in the integration of technology into teaching and to model those skills in their own teaching in the University’s web-centric and mobile learning environment. Primary duties include preparing, delivering and grading all course material, assignments, quizzes and exams as assigned. The Academic Associate will be available for consultation with students during and following completion of the course. Duties may include the supervision of teaching assistant(s).
The successful candidate will be expected to teach at the undergraduate level in the Nursing Program. Ontario Tech is a technology-enhanced learning environment, and the candidate shall be expected to have skills in the integration of technology into teaching and to model those skills in their own teaching in the University’s web-centric and mobile learning environment.
The successful candidate will be appointed as an Academic Associate and will be expected to teach the equivalent of 7 standard courses [70%] across the academic year, as well as assume service [20%] and other [10%] responsibilities within the Faculty/Nursing Program.
Primary duties include preparing and delivering course content in a lecture and/or lab setting, the grading of all related course assignments, quizzes and exams and ongoing communication with students. Duties may also include the supervision of teaching assistant(s) and working with Clinical Sessional Instructors.

Evidence of an ability to work in a collaborative environment
Excellent communication skills with an ability to maintain effective relationships with a range of faculty, staff and students
Demonstrated excellence in teaching undergraduate nursing students in both classroom and laboratory settings
Demonstrated knowledge and experience with the Learning Management System, Canvas
Demonstrated ability to deliver classes remotely, using online modalities such as Kaltura Media and Google Meets
Proven experience managing large classes and diverse populations
Experience coordinating and supervising Teaching Assistants as applicable
Excellent organizational skills to effectively manage course delivery, marking of assignments and exams, and the ability respond to student enquiries in a timely manner
Required Education:
An undergraduate degree in nursing (BScN) and a master’s degree in nursing or a related field are both required
PhD preferred
Required Experience:
Applicants for this position must be Registered Nurses (Regular or Extended class) and hold a current license entitling them to practice with no restrictions with the College of Nurses of Ontario
Demonstrated evidence of relevant practice experience as a registered nurse in the candidate’s specific areas of focus is also required
Preference will be given to those candidates with demonstrated teaching excellence and experience in nursing education in a post-secondary environment at the university level
Experience, or ability to deliver undergraduate content in one or more of the following domains would be beneficial: acute care/medical surgical nursing for adults, older adult, nursing theory, and practicum oversight
Experience with simulation-based learning would be an asset
This position falls within the bargaining unit represented by the UOIT Faculty Association and will be subject to the terms and conditions of the collective agreement between the University and the UOIT Faculty AssociationUOIT Faculty Association collective agreement may be found on the Human Resources section of our website. Starting salary will be commensurate with experience and annual salary increases are administered as per the terms outlined in the collective agreement.
