The Interventional Radiology and Pediatric Sedation Service is a service that provides nursing care to infants and children who require sedation for procedures and diagnostic tests throughout McMaster Children's Hospital both inpatient and outpatient and medical procedures requiring day treatment. The service involves assisting with the anesthetist outside the OR for some sedation procedures and administering sedation under supervision of the physician for others. The service provides care in a family centered environment.
Position Summary
The primary focus for this position is pediatric sedation and medical day care as well as Interventional Radiology at MUMC. As a member of the interdisciplinary health care team, the RN uses clinical expertise and knowledge of children and families; disease processes and related issues to plan patient care provide nursing interventions and evaluate clinical practice across the continuum of care.
Scheduled Work Hours
days, evenings, nights, weekends (on call as required)
- Registered Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario 
 
- PALS certification (Pediatric Advanced Life support) 
 
- Minimum of 3 years recent pediatric experience in the last 4 years in a pediatric tertiary care inpatient setting 
 
- Proficient Pediatric Vascular Access skills including ability to start Pediatric IV's 
 
- Demonstrated clinical expertise in assessments, planning and interventions for children 
 
- Demonstrated leadership as an independent practitioner who is self-directed and a continuous learner 
 
- Demonstrated ability to liaise with teams within the hospital and community
