Under supervision and direction the Medical Laboratory Assistant is responsible for the proper collection of appropriate specimens for laboratory testing on inpatients and outpatients. The Lab Assistant performs a variety of laboratory tasks, which require learned manual skills rather than a technological training, to assist the trained technologists in various sections within the Department of Laboratory Medicine.
- Grade 12 education or recognized equivalent
- OSMT Certified Medical Laboratory Assistant Certificate
- Experience in Core Laboratory
- Experience and demonstrated proficiency in blood collection and collection of other body fluids as necessary
- Data entry and order entry skills in Meditech
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a team environment as well as independently
