Introduction to role Are you ready to lead and innovate in the field of patient safety? As the Director of Global Patient Safety in Canada, you will provide strategic direction and manage a dynamic team to ensure compliance with local health authority regulations and AstraZeneca's standards. You will lead daily operations, manage high-level risks, and develop innovative solutions while maintaining oversight of all patient safety processes. Your expertise in local and global patient safety requirements will be crucial in influencing cross-functional teams and stakeholders. Accountabilities - Contribute to the core components of the local pharmacovigilance system, ensuring compliance with local PV requirements. - Manage local PS team and activities to meet Health Canada and AstraZeneca standards. - Support risk management plans and regulatory submissions in collaboration with cross-functional teams. - Ensure prompt responses to patient safety queries from regulatory authorities. - Oversee processes for adverse event reporting to meet AstraZeneca and local regulatory standards. - Support audit and inspection processes, managing identified gaps as per GVP. - Manage safety agreements and local Business Continuity plans. - Provide adverse event reporting training to employees and external providers. - Encourage operational improvements and coordinate implementation initiatives. - Review team compliance with quality management requirements annually. - Maintain oversight of external vendor engagement and deliverables. - Develop team capabilities and ensure resource optimization. - Establish a high-performance culture through performance management processes. - Identify training needs and support development initiatives for team members. - Ensure compliance with patient safety training and internal processes. - Manage reconciliation processes related to pharmacovigilance data accuracy. - Ensure after-hours processes for adverse event reporting are in place. - Monitor digital activities as per global procedures. - Capture quality issues on AZ systems and ensure timely closure of CAPAs. - Lead PS projects at local and global levels. Essential Skills/Experience - Qualified Degree in Pharmacy/ Medical/ Science - Experience in a similar role in the pharmaceutical industry - Knowledge of relevant legislation - Experience with Health Canada inspections including leading front or anteroom activities and interviews - Experience with Canadian Risk Management Plans - Cross-functional teamwork approach - Demonstrated ability to set and manage priorities, resource goals, and project initiatives - Ability to influence strategically to obtain desired outcomes while maintaining effective, positive organizational relationships - Extensive experience in relationship and stakeholder management - Excellent oral and written communication skills - Critical appraisal/analytical skills - Budget Control - People Management skills Desirable Skills/Experience - Advanced scientific degree - Leadership, Problem-Solving, Influencing, Conflict Resolution skills - Understanding of multiple aspects of Medical Affairs, Regulatory, Clinical Research, and Commercial Operations - Medical knowledge in AZ Therapeutic Areas - Medical Marketing experience - Change management skills - The ability to work in a complex, business-critical, and high-profile environment building credibility in ambiguous situations - AZ leadership capabilities - People development Great People want to Work with us!
