Job Summary
The Driver Handyperson reports to the Manager, Public Service. This position is responsible for the daily delivery of resources and materials to community branches. The Driver Handyperson assists with general upkeep of delivery vehicles, performs safety and fire inspections, and provides general maintenance of branch facilities.
Primary Responsibilities
Delivers library resources to all branch locations.
Delivers library resources to community locations as required.
Sorts requested material at branches for delivery.
Delivers equipment to and from stores or repair shops as required.
Responsible for general maintenance duties at all locations.
Performs basic carpentry, equipment maintenance, repair and modification, painting, and facility upkeep.
Monitors the delivery vehicles for proper servicing, maintenance, and repairs to ensure safe and reliable operation.
Performs general care and cleaning of delivery vehicles.
Conducts fire safety inspections at all locations.
Available to substitute for other Driver Handyperson staff; including on short-notice.
Actively participate in meetings, workshops, and training sessions.
Provides excellent customer service to internal and external customers.
Promotes a positive impression of the Essex County Library in all interactions.
Regularly review Essex County Library communications, policies, and procedures.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Must have an Ontario Secondary Graduation Diploma or equivalency.
Must have a Class G Driver’s License required; license must be maintained as valid and in good standing.
Strong understanding of current safety practices and legislation.
Demonstrated skills in basic carpentry, equipment maintenance, repair and modification, painting, and facility upkeep.
Ability to lift and move items weighing up to 50 pounds.
Compensation
Starting wage of $25.11 - $29.01/hour.
