Job Description: This is a Casual Position. Position Purpose summary: The Residential Support Worker (Casual/On-Call) will work with the Residents of Grace Mansion in all areas of personal development and growth, life skills, and social and spiritual activities to enable the Resident to attain their full potential. Accountabilities: Administrative Duties Specifics of administrative duties will vary with the different shifts. Answer telephone and refer calls to the appropriate person(s). Admit visitors to the Centre according to guidelines. Maintain confidentiality and keep accurate files and statistical records. Receive/explain applications for potential residents, along with updating the waitlist. Assist with the intake process and departure process of residents. May receive residents’ rent and place funds in the designated lockbox as per written protocol. Performs other work-related duties as assigned by program manager. Community Support Supervise/monitor actions and interactions of Residents during assigned shift. Respond to all Resident inquiries within the framework of Centre Policies & Procedures. Research and develop knowledge of issues that relate to residents. Development of resource information as relevant for residents. Maintain contact with the Salvation Army, City and Provincial Government and community agencies to coordinate activities and available resources for the benefit of the Centre and the residents. Initial response to emergencies such as fire alarm, or other situations. Respond and assist residents at times of physical/mental/emotional crises. CRITICAL RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT Governance Boards and Councils: None. Internal: Program Manager, Program Supervisor, Intake & Case Workers, Case Workers, Other Support Workers, Maintenance and Janitorial Staff, Chaplain. External: Grace Mansion Residents, stakeholders in the community. MANAGERIAL/Technical Leadership RESPONSIBILITY: Reports directly to: Program Manager This position has no direct reports FINANCIAL AND MATERIALS MANAGEMENT: Minimal material responsibility Uses or maintains organization assets in accordance with established guidelines. Does not process any financial transactions with no budget responsibilities. May receive residents’ rent and place funds in the designated lockbox as per written protocol. WORKING CONDITIONS: Duties require the employee to work in Grace Mansion – an 84-room, four-story residence located at 596 East Hastings Street in downtown Vancouver. Responsibilities will involve working from a designated workstation, but will also involve movement through the residential areas, and general building. The employee may at times be subject to hazardous or disagreeable conditions in the performance of their duties. Education, Qualifications and Certifications: Completion of high school diploma. Any additional formal post-secondary/college program in a related field will be considered as an asset. Current Certification in First Aid/CPR. Training/Certification in Addictions and/or Mental Health issues or willingness to be trained. Certification in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention or willingness to be trained. WHMIS Certification in FOODSAFE Level 1 or willingness to be trained. Alternative combination of education and experience might be considered Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements A minimum of 10 months of focused experience working in a residential setting. Computer skills and training in Word, Outlook & Excel. Skills and Capabilities (examples provided below): Organized with good attention to detail. Good analytical and problem-solving skills. Strong sense of integrity and confidentiality with professional ethics and a balanced sense of fairness and flexibility. Understanding of and ability to follow the Universal precautions. Fluent spoken and written English. Quality oral and written communication skills. Criminal Record Review Act clearance to work with vulnerable adults. Ability to de-escalate individuals in stressful situations. Ability and willingness to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check screening. Compensation: The target hiring range for this position is $19.93 to $24.91 with a maximum of $29.89. Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
